New York: Macmillan, 1936. First Edition, First Issue. Signed by Margaret Mitchell on the flyleaf. Laid into the book is what is considered the finest Clark Gable letter extant, an amazing reflection all about Gone With the Wind. Dated January 25, 1960, it is a Typed Letter Signed in blue ink by Clark Gable, on his printed stationery with the original stamped envelope, which is written to the News Editor of the Atlanta Constitution newspaper, Mr. Actor Cordell, Jr., who had asked for Gable’s remarks on Gone With the Wind twenty years after the release of the film classic, and to which Clark Gable wrote this amazing response: "Dear Mr. Cordell: I have received your letter of December 29 and will answer your questions in the order which you ask them. - Yes, it does seem like 20 years. - I feel about GONE WITH THE WIND as being one of the greatest pictures ever made, not because I played a leading role in it, but because of the great story, the way the story was brought to the screen, the production… Leer más

New Yok: The Macmillan Company, 1936. Beautifully signed by Margaret Mitchell at front endpaper: "Margaret Mitchell". Rarity now approaching ninety years in existence in the original first printing wrapper. This signed first edition, the May 1936 printing, is very rare as are any of her signed books or other items. Descripción:
New York: Macmillan Company,, 1936. A signed American classic First edition, first printing, first issue dust jacket, signed by the author on the front free endpaper. Mitchell ceased signing copies around six months following publication after being inundated with requests. She reaffirmed this stance weeks before her death in 1949: "I was forced to adopt a 'no autographing' policy and since that time I have not altered it" (cited in Harwell, p. 425).  The first printing is dated May, rather than June, on the copyright page. Dust jackets in the first issue advertise this title on the rear panel in the second row of the second column. Mitchell's sole published novel received immediate acclaim and record-breaking sales, winning her the National Book Award and the Pulitzer Prize, and transforming her life from one of obscurity to international stardom. The famous film adaptation followed in 1939.  Octavo. Original grey cloth, spine and front cover lettered and stamped with wind devices in dark blue,… Leer más

("Margaret") in black fountain pen ink, on personal letterhead, Atlanta, May 3, 1939. 4to, 3 separate pages. To Mable and Edwin [Granberry]: " We have been in one of our hurricanes. It all started when Selznick at last announced Miss Vivien Leigh and things are just now quieting down." She then goes on to ponder an invitation to Long Beach, New York. On page two she comments on that year’s Pulitzer Prize-winner: "Of course, you know about Marjorie Rawlings getting the Pulitzer award. There never was much doubt that she would get it if there was any justice anywhere.I do not know whether the award will keep her too busy to make this trip. The members of the Atlanta Women’s Press Club have asked me to give a party for her should she come, as they are all anxious to meet her." Mitchell closes with mention of the book which made her famous: "I was interested in your remarks about finding a GWTW mention in an article written by a Chinese. I did not see the… Leer más

(No nominations [?] Ha! Ha!) Margaret Mitchell." In 1918 Mitchell graduated from Washington Seminary in Atlanta, and presumably Flodnig was a classmate. Atlanta, 1937. unbound. 1 page, 11 x 7.25 inches, Atlanta, June 29, 1937. Rare letter signed "Margaret Mitchell Marsh," declining an invitation to a party because it conflicts with her wedding anniversary, in full: "Dear Miss Hall: Sue Myrick forwarded to me your invitation, and John and I appreciate it so very much. I know the party will be lots of fun and I only wish we could come, but Sunday is our wedding anniversary and we have already made plans to spend it with friends. I admit that the temptation to break this engagement is strong, because I liked Milledgeville so much when I was there at the Press meeting. And also, I would love to attend your party as Prissy. (That is the only role my size would warrant. The costume would be cheap, too --just a croker sack and ten cents' worth of shoe polish. We do appreciate your invitation so much, and I shall look forward to Sue's description of the party." Two horizontal folds and slight foxing; very good… Leer más

Chicago: The Reilly and Britton Co, 1917. First Edition. First Edition. Blank book-style yearbook (largely still blank) belonging to Elizabeth Floding with numerous inscriptions and well wishes from various students and faculty, including a four-line Gellett Burgess poem written to Floding by Margaret Mitchell: "I never saw a purple cow, I never hope to see one, I'll tell you one thing anyhow, I'd rather see than be one! Ha! Ha! Margaret Mitchell." Additional ephemera also laid in, including a piano recital program and various small photographs. "Gone With the Wind" writer Mitchell attended private girls' school Washington Seminary in Atlanta Georgia, where presumably Floding was a classmate. 1941 Atlanta, George: August 2, 1941. From author Margaret Mitchell to Marion County Circuit Judge Leonard H. McMahan. One page, signed "Margaret Mitchell Marsh." Very good letter, with normal tri-fold, some tiny holes and some light surface wear to top edge of letter, and a tiny bit of dampstaining to recto. Overall, a unique and inspiring letter. In this letter, Margaret Mitchell, author of Gone with the Wind (1936), thanks McMahan for sending her a book on Crater Lake and "The Brimfield Heroine Letter," which is a 66-year-old woman's account of her journey on the Oregon Trail. The latter item sparks an inspiring paragraph from Mitchell, in which she writes: "When we read such records of courage and endurance how can we doubt the future of our country and our people? I do not hold with the prevalent idea that we have become soft or frightened. Endurance and courage are still in our bones. 1941-42. Two letters signed in full by Margaret Mitchell, author on the classic Gone With the Wind. Both letters addressed to Rear Admiral Edward J. Marquart and his wife, one dated December 26, 1941, the other December 19, 1942, each with their original envelopes; both letters refer to the commissioning of the U.S.S. Atlanta. The U.S.S. Atlanta was commissioned at the New York Navy Yard in Brooklyn on 24 December 1941. In the second letter, Mitchell says, in part, "My trip through the Navy Yard was a heartening affair and, during this past year when I have sometimes heard people talking in depressed fashion of how far behind the enemy America's production is, I have risen up and stated, 'If you could have seen what I saw at Brooklyn you would have no fears for our future victory.
