Laid into the book is what is considered the finest Clark Gable letter extant, an amazing reflection all about Gone With the Wind. Dated January 25, 1960, it is a Typed Letter Signed in blue ink by Clark Gable, on his printed stationery with the original stamped envelope, which is written to the News Editor of the Atlanta Constitution newspaper, Mr. Actor Cordell, Jr., who had asked for Gable’s remarks on Gone With the Wind twenty years after the release of the film classic, and to which Clark Gable wrote this amazing response: "Dear Mr. Cordell: I have received your letter of December 29 and will answer your questions in the order which you ask them. - Yes, it does seem like 20 years. - I feel about GONE WITH THE WIND as being one of the greatest pictures ever made, not because I played a leading role in it, but because of the great story, the way the story was brought to the screen, the production… Leer más

Binding tight and square. Original full-bound cloth boards present, in exceptional condition for their age, with slight wear to corners as shown. Minimal wear present to boards and text block, with some wear evident to the original dust jacket, with a repaired tears on both the front and back covers, as well as some chipping losses at spine corners, and wear to the edges at bottom and top. Clipped (as is typical) at the top corner, with original price of $3 not clipped at the bottom left. Rarity now approaching ninety years in existence in the original first printing wrapper. This signed first edition, the May 1936 printing, is very rare as are any of her signed books or other items. In a letter dated February, 1937, Margaret Mitchell wrote that she would no longer sign her book, nevermore for friends or even relatives. Butternut (greyish brown) full cloth boards, navy stamped cover and spine titles, light shelf wear, rub, spine pull. Deckled pages very good, clean; no writing. Bind fine; hinges intact. Original May first printing dust wrapper, generally good with approx. 1/3 of spine area missing; unclipped 3.00, protected in new clear sleeve. Front and back panels and flaps remain near very good. The first edition, first printing numbered only 10,000 copies, and they bore an incorrect release date of May, 1936. These inaccurate first printings, and corrected second printing of 25,000 copies, were both actually released to the American public in June 1936. The true firsts with the May 1936 date also have the original publisher's price of $3.00. Book near fine, corners and spine ends slightly rubbed, little soiling on front paste-down and front free end paper and rear paste-down. Dust jacket good, piece missing at bottom of spine, and some smaller pieces missing, tears to front and rear hinge of flaps and to spine, wear, top of front flap clipped but price is at bottom of flap. Housed in slipcase with front and back of dj printed on slipcase.

Ownership signature of Elizabeth Flodnig, corners a bit worn and some soiling on the boards, a tight, very good or better copy. A blank book with sections for autographs. Contains many inscriptions to Flodnig in 1917, among them a four-line inscription by Margaret Mitchell, author of *Gone With the Wind*, on page 44 (appropriating Gellett Burgess's famous poem): "I never saw a purple cow, I never hope to see one, I'll tell you one thing anyhow, I'd rather see than be one! (No nominations [?] Ha! Ha!) Margaret Mitchell." In 1918 Mitchell graduated from Washington Seminary in Atlanta, and presumably Flodnig was a classmate. Laid in is additional ephemera from the recipient's continuing education in Atlanta. Housed in a custom cloth chemise and gray morocco slipcase.

I know the party will be lots of fun and I only wish we could come, but Sunday is our wedding anniversary and we have already made plans to spend it with friends. I admit that the temptation to break this engagement is strong, because I liked Milledgeville so much when I was there at the Press meeting. And also, I would love to attend your party as Prissy. (That is the only role my size would warrant. The costume would be cheap, too --just a croker sack and ten cents' worth of shoe polish. Blank book-style yearbook (largely still blank) belonging to Elizabeth Floding with numerous inscriptions and well wishes from various students and faculty, including a four-line Gellett Burgess poem written to Floding by Margaret Mitchell: "I never saw a purple cow, I never hope to see one, I'll tell you one thing anyhow, I'd rather see than be one! Ha! Ha! Margaret Mitchell." Additional ephemera also laid in, including a piano recital program and various small photographs. "Gone With the Wind" writer Mitchell attended private girls' school Washington Seminary in Atlanta Georgia, where presumably Floding was a classmate. The book also contains an inscription to Floding from English teacher Eva Paisley, whom Mitchell would credit as the first to recognize her writing talent. 1941-42. Two letters signed in full by Margaret Mitchell, author on the classic Gone With the Wind. Both letters addressed to Rear Admiral Edward J. Marquart and his wife, one dated December 26, 1941, the other December 19, 1942, each with their original envelopes; both letters refer to the commissioning of the U.S.S. Atlanta. The U.S.S. Atlanta was commissioned at the New York Navy Yard in Brooklyn on 24 December 1941. In the second letter, Mitchell says, in part, "My trip through the Navy Yard was a heartening affair and, during this past year when I have sometimes heard people talking in depressed fashion of how far behind the enemy America's production is, I have risen up and stated, 'If you could have seen what I saw at Brooklyn you would have no fears for our future victory.

Annotated in Margaret Mitchell's hand, Gone With The Wind Stapled promotional pamphlet in soft wraps, 5" x 7.25" with 22 paginated pages.
