Oxford: Oxford University Press / Clarendon Press, 1923. Limited Edition. Hardcover. Fine/very good +. Large octavo, 5 volumes, complete as published (two volumes of Austen's letters were issued nearly a decade later, and are sometimes offered together with this set). One of 1,000 limited sets, 950 of which were offered for sale. An exceptionally beautiful example of this notoriously fragile set, bound in the publisher's marbled boards with blue-ish cloth spines and printed spine labels; evocative of a Regency-period publisher's binding. Spines gently and evenly sunned, but a fine set, with handsome 20th century bookplates to each front paste-down. In the rare original dust jackets, somewhat darkened on the spines, and some with small stains and edge chips, but still at least very good. Aside form the many sets which were quickly bound up in leather, one surmises that surviving sets in the publisher's binding often had their jackets thrown away, as the bindings are more attractive. Each volume…

(Los Angeles): The Nash Press, 1978. Limited Edition. Hardcover. Fine. Oblong quarto, 71pp., illustrated. Perhaps a touch shaken, but still a fine copy in the publisher's greyish silk boards, backed in black leather, in matching publisher's slipcase, gently rubbed along extremities. First edition, deluxe issue, of this exhibition catalog. One of 100 numbered copies specially bound and signed by Graham Nash. Presentation copy, inscribed by Nash to Lydia Modi Vitale ("with much love and respect") on the colophon page. Vitale was the Director of the de Saisset Art Gallery and Museum at the University of Santa Clara, CA which hosted the inaugural exhibition of what was to have been a national tour of The Nash Collection. The tour as initially conceived by Nash had to be reconsidered in light of Vitale's resignation, for health reasons, of the Gallery Directorship. Laid in is a carbon copy, signed, of a single-page TL from Nash to an administrator at the University discussing this and related matters.…

Near fine in a fine dust jacket. Jacket design by Bob Giusti. An exceptional example. "You have to hand it to Kurt Vonnegut, Jr. In his eighth novel, Breakfast of Champions, or Goodbye Blue Monday, he performs considerable complex magic. He wheels out all the latest fashionable complaints about Americaher racism, her gift for destroying language, her technological greed and selfishnessand makes them seem fresh, funny, outrageous, hateful and lovable, all at the same time" (New York Times). It was adapted to film the 1999 film, directed by Alan Rudolph, starring Bruce Willis, Nick Nolte and Albert Finney as Kilgore Trout.

London: C. Kegan Paul & Co, 1879. First authorized edition of this classic poem, following the small "pirated" edition of 1870. Octodecimo, bound in red morocco by Sotheran & Co. with gilt titles and tooling to the spine in six compartments within raised gilt bands, elaborate gilt tooling to the front and rear panels, gilt turn-ins and inner dentelles, all edges gilt, marbled endpapers, decorated with an erotic concealed fore-edge painting depicting a woman posing suggestively for four admiring gentlemen. The term 'fore-edge painting' can refer to any painted decoration on the fore-edges of the leaves of a book which is concealed when the book is closed but reappears when the edge is fanned out slightly. In very good condition with light toning to the first and last few leaves, bookplate to the front pastedown. "The original Preface to 'The Lover's Tale' states that it was composed in my nineteenth year. Two only of the three parts then written were printed, when, feeling…

Rare original Alfred Hitchcock self-portrait, signed by the great director. Octavo, one page, large original felt tip sketch of the director's ever-recognizable silhouette, neatly signed below, "Alfred J. Hitchcock." In near fine condition. Triple-matted and framed. The entire piece measures 15.25 inches by 18 inches. Rare and desirable. Often referred to as "The Master of Suspense", English film director and producer Alfred Hitchcock pioneered many elements of the suspense and psychological thriller genres. Over a career spanning more than half a century, Hitchcock fashioned for himself a recognizable directorial style. His stylistic trademarks include the use of camera movement that mimics a person's gaze, forcing viewers to engage in a form of voyeurism. In addition, he framed shots to maximize anxiety, fear, or empathy, and used innovative forms of film editing. His most successful films include Rebecca (1940), Rear Window (1954), Vertigo (1958), North by Northwest (1959) and Psycho (1960).
