Sobre este artículo

New York: Harper & Row, 1952. Reprint. Fine in near-fine jacket.. Inscribed later printing of the modern children's classic, an exploration of innocence and change, death and courage. One spider's efforts to save a pig from slaughter charmed audiences immediately upon publication, showing that "that human beings must always be on the watch for the coming of wonders." The book was published by Harper under the editorship of Ursula Nordstrom, who was the primary force in fashioning modern children's literature away from morality and education towards imagination and affection. While the inscription is in a later reprint likely dating from the time it was signed (1983), White was not known for signing many books, making this is a special copy. Newbery Honor Award. 8'' x 5''. Original full tan cloth, front board and spine stamped in blue with illustrated title. Original pictorial dust jacket. Blue web-patterned endpapers. Illustrated with black-and-white line drawings by Garth Williams throughout. [8], 184 pages. Inscribed by White on half title: "Salutations! E.B. White and thanks for your gift to the Center," dates March 1983. Single small tape repair to verso of jacket. Slightest bit of edgewear at foot of jacket spine.

Sinopsis

Charlotte’s Web (1952) by E. B. White is a piece of classic children’s literature. Fern Arable, a young girl growing up on a farm, pleads with her father to not butcher the runt of a recently birthed litter of pigs. After being spared, Wilbur the pig spends some time as Fern’s pet before being sold to her uncle, Homer Zuckerman, at which point Wilbur’s adventure truly begins. After being rejected by the other animals at Homer’s farm, Wilbur strikes up an unlikely friendship with Charlotte, a spider whose silky web resides near the pig. When Wilbur learns that he is to be butchered, his arachnid companion hatches a daring plan to save his life. The famous novel has been adapted into a movie, video game, stage production, and is soon to be made into a television series. A feat of storytelling, Charlotte’s Web won the Laura Ingall’s Wilder Medal and was a Newbery Honor book in 1953. Charlotte's Web is one of the best-selling paperbacks of all time. E.B. White rarely signed books, so a signed first edition can run anywhere from a few thousand dollars, to over $25,000.
