Quarto glazed pictorial boards (marginal paper loss to one corner/rubbed to hinges at head and foot for 1cm) fine doublepage colored endpapers 48pp. A very crisp very clean copy with 4 pop-ups in very good condition.

Oxford: Ric. Davis 2nd edition Printed by Hen: Hall, 1674. Hardcover. Good. Folio contemporary calf on four raised bands, blind rules and fleurons to corners with 2 (later) red spine labels (lower cover nearly detached/upper held by inner hinge/tips worn spine damaged, remnants of some sort of single clasp). Titlepage in Red and Black +[12]pp Dedication, Preface & Contents +[2]pp with vertical Title +247pp +[2]pp blank. Name Roberts to upper margin of title later partially overwritten by Rachel Dowding, West Dulwich. Pastedowns have been covered by tan silk. Final blank lacking corners and some offsetting from the last printed page. Some pale foxing thoughout. Side notes giving references and dates.

Quarto contemporary calf ruled and with corner ornaments (worn to all corners, top cover re-attached lower cover held by cords). Frontis portrait + Titlepage +[2]pp dedication +xvi +[18]pp contents & errata +731pp (recte 723pp since pp17-23 are omitted but catchwords & signatures are correct) +[1]p blank. Contents generally in good clean and crisp condition but damp has damaged outer margins of preliminaries and first dozen or so leaves of text. This affects margins and some side notes only except for frontis & titlepage which have margins repaired. Library stamp "Bib.Scriptorum, S.J. Londinii" on back of frontis with shelf mark to upper corner, titlepage with old owner's name Ed. Southcott on blank area. Small octavo later morocco with gilt title (tips & hinges rubbed) Frontis + Titlepage +[5]pp Dedication (1641) + [7]pp King's Proclamation (1637) in black letter & Judge's Certificate +103pp +[6]pp publisher's catalogue. Birmingham Law Society bookplate on pastedownn & stamp of same on back of title & lower margin of book list. *Clean nice copy of this study of legal jurisdiction between the King and the Church, written in 1641 but book first published 1661 after Restoration of Monarchy (WING S602).

Half title + engraved titlepage + 48 plates but the first plate lacking its text [ie pages 1 & 2] + 100pp + partial index (index lacks A-N pp101-4 but p105/6 present covering letters N to Z).
