Comprises 'Memoirs of a Fox-Hunting Man' (ill. Lynton Lamb; 1971), 'Memoirs of an Infantry Officer' (ill. Lynton Lamb; 1974) and 'Sherston's Progress' (ill. John Lawrence; 1974). First editions of one of the most successful recent publications from the Folio Society. All three volumes have been several times re-issued individually and again as a 'boxed set' in 1993. A fictionalised autobiography of Siegfried Sassoon, who depicts his life through the upper-middle class George Sherston as he grows up and loses his innocence in the First World War. All three volumes are in very good condition, with only very slight discolouration to edges of boards and minimal wear to jacket edges; internally clean and bright with slight yellowing to endpapers in volume 2 ('Infantry Officer'). Elegant set of first editions of Sassoon's 'fictitious' autobiography in which his story is told by 'George Sherston'.

This lightly fictionalized trilogy details the author's lonely youth, his idle years as a country gentleman, and his military service on the Western Front. The first volume is by Faber & Gwyer with the second two bearing the imprint of Faber and Faber after the firm name changed. All three volumes in fine condition with dustjackets in near fine condition. The jackets show traces of shelf wear and the spine of Infantry Officer is slightly rubbed; jackets otherwsie clean and intact with original prices. A much nicer set than normally found, particularly the scarce first volume. Sassoon's trilogy of autobiographical novels is not only a masterpiece of Great War Literature but also considered to be one of the finest works of 20th century English literature.
