This is a near-perfect copy of six collected novels by the great British military novelist C.S. Forester (1899-1966). This book is now approaching rare status. It includes The Ship, Mr. Midshipman Hornblower, The Earthly Paradise, The General, The Captain From Connecticut, and the African Queen. These books cover both world wars, the War of 1812, the Napoleonic Wars, Christopher Columbus' voyage of 1497, and the African Queen, made famous by the film starring Humphrey Bogart and Katherine Hepburn. They also introduce the reader to the famed Horatio Hornblower. This is a large book--861 pages. Minor wear to the edges of the dust jacket. The edges of the pages are darkening a little. One dogear. Otherwise pristine.

Paperback. Penguin. UK 1956. 'The African Queen' by C. S. Forester. This book is a first edition in this Penguin format . The front cover is nice and bright with an illustration by Robin Jacques. The edges and tips are very good. Light age-spotting to the front. There is a 2/6 price to the bottom band. Back cover also very good and bright with a few age spots. Solid, complete spine and clear titles with a little age-toning. Contents: the contents are age-toned with a few age spots but otherwise clean and unmarked. The fore-edge of the text-block bears a few age spots. This copy is very lightly read, possibly unread as the spine is not broken. The novel was made into a successful film starring Katherine Hepburn and Humphrey Bogarde in 1951. Not exlib and packed and sent with care.

The novel was first published in 1944, and this later edition (published in 1961) was abridged by G. M. Gore Little.

Jacket has 360 titles on verso, so it is from an early printing but in the same format (style 8) with the only defect being price clipping. A fine, clean, unmarked copy in a Brodart cover.
