London: J. Murray, 1790. Second Edition. Full Leather. Very Good. 21.5 x 13.5 cm. Octavo. xv [3] 319 [1] [98 176pp. 24 folding plates. Plate 8 is duplicated and plate 7 is not present. Seperate title page and pagination for "Curious and Useful Miscellaneous Articles". First done in 1785, this is the undated "A New Ediiton with Very Considerable Additions" circa ~[1790]; a reissue of the second edition. Bound in contemporary leather boards, rebacked with a more modern leather spine with black spine label. Piece out of inner portion of page 319 effecting some of the text. Soiling to the first and last few pages. Mild foxing. Imison was a clockmaker, optician, and printer. The present work was written as an introduction to the mechanical sciences. References: ESTC N21609. Oxford DNB. Provenance: Two previous owner's names: Mary Seymour Munro, Fowlis Castle 1820 and W J. Altehiar (?) Jan 11th 1858.

London: Printed for the Author [n.d., ca. 1787] Stated second edition "With very considerable Additions." The first edition, published in 1785 and recorded in ESTC in five copies, has two sets of pagination ending on p. 264 and p. 124, so the present edition is clearly longer. ESTC lists three different "second editions, with very considerable additions" and the same imprint as the copy with similar but not identical collations, which it estimates to have been published in "1790?" It also lists a "third edition with considerable additions," with a dated title-page of 1787. Obviously, if the 1787 date on the title-page of the third edition is correct, the date of the second edition cannot be 1790. ESTC also lists an edition published in 1796. All of these editions are very scarce. Contemporary marbled boards, recently rebacked in calf with gilt-lettered red morocco spine label. Octavo. With second half-title for the second part.
