NY: Charles Scribner's Sons, 1907. First edition. Hardcover. Good. This is a library rebound copy with gilt stamping to spine. A sturdy binding, some edge-wear, clean. Covers are tight. Library book plate on the front paste-down page, with front fly leaf showing remains of a pulled piece of paper. No ink stamping to text block edges; however, there are several small ink stampings in the book, including title page, none covering the text. A few pages have some age staining, a few pages with accidental rubbing to front edges. Otherwise the text is mainly clean and unmarked with still bright paper. All plates are present and in good condition. 32 b/w photographic plates. 220 pages.

NY: Brentano's / Printed in Germany, [1885]. Copyright Edition. Hardcover. Very Good Plus. Smallish green cloth hardcover, still bright gilt stamping to front cover and spine, t.e.g. still bright. Shows wear to edges, more so to heel of spine, but not severe, a bit of soiling but for age pleasingly clean, fore-edge deckled leaves. A tight copy, covers firmly attached, unmarked with clean pages, although the rear end pages are a bit foxed/soiled. Two volumes in one book, separate pagination, 280 and 271 pages. Note: there is not date on the title page or copyright page, however I did find online, a 1917 advertisement for this book in Publisher’s Trade List (16mo, cloth, gilt cloth, $1.50 net), but it is not clear that was the year it was printed, so may have been backstock from the publisher and printed earlier).

Offset on title page Unpaginated [60 pages, including advertisements but not the covers. A lovely vintage book.
