(Billy) Hayes was the track coach at Indiana University from1924-43, where he won eight Big Ten cross country titles and three NCAA crowns, five Big Ten track titles and the NCAA title in 1932, and coached world record holders and seven Olympians. Indiana University named its track and field Billy Hayes Track in his honor. Vaughn Shoemaker, longtime political cartoonist at the Chicago Daily News, won the 1938 and 1947 Pulitzer Prize for Editorial Cartooning and created the character John Q. Public. Original anti-nuclear protest poster for the 1983 June 20 blockade organized by Livermore Action Group, part of the International Day of Resistance, during which more than 1,100 protesters were arrested.
