Red cloth boards with paper title block to spine. Boards have general wear with a tiny worm hole midway along outside spine joint affecting inner hinge with a tiny loss of paper. Contents are in generally fine condition with browning to free endpapers front and back with some transfer to pastedowns. The Complete (Compleat) Angler was first published in 1653 and remains enduringly popular with 1,097 editions published between 1653 and 2019 in 9 languages.

First Edition. 2 Volumes. 4to up to 12" tall; lxiv, 504, viii, 523pp., illustrated with 102 photographs plates. Green cloth with gilt spine titles. Name and place (Scotland) to pastedown, light outer edge browning and otherwise contents are in fine condition. Striations to spine and otherwise boards show little wear and binding is tight. This most popular classic was written by Farrer in 1913, but its publication was delayed until 1919, after the end of World War I. Considered the standard tome on rock gardens, it has been reprinted several times. Reginald Farrer (1880–1920), known as the 'Prince of Alpine gardeners' was a plant hunter who made an invaluable contribution to alpine gardening authoring over twenty books and countless articles.

Black cloth boards with gilt spine titles. Binding is tight and contents are clean, without tears or folds. All maps are in fine condition. Foxing to endpapers, preliminaries, and frontispiece tissue guard; sporadic light foxing throughout. Fraying to top of spine and top back strip partially unglued, light outer edge dusting and foxing.
The 1933 expedition led by Hugh Ruttledge, was the first attempt since the 1924 expedition of which Mallory and Irvine had been killed. In the 1933 expedition, three climbers, Wager, Wyn Harris and later Smythe, reached 8580 metres. On this expedition an ice axe was found which belonged to Irvine.
