The author's aim in writing this book was to make it an elementary text-book for the novice in grape culture and not a scientific treatise. The front pastedown has a bookplate bearing the motto "tuta latebris nullis fraus". 247pp. No illustrations. This book was the last in a series of botanical handbooks written by J.G.Baker, then the keeper of the herbarium of the Royal Gardens, Kew. In the nomenclature and circumscription of the genera, he follows Bentham and Hooker's "General Plantarum" with very slight exception. Size: 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" tall.

Title in gilt on front cover and spine. Top edge gilt. Condition: Good, with general soiling to covers and sunning to spine. Cover corners and head and tail of spine are lightly bumped and worn. Front pastedown has residue of previous owners bookplate which has been removed. Light foxing to endpapers and tissue guard to frontispiece. Internally the books is in very good clean condition, apart from a light watersplash mark to the top edge of the last ten pages of the index, and the binding is sound. 414pp. 173 b/w illustrations, inc. b/w photographic frontispiece. Chapters include sections on planning, implements to use and the grouping and massing of trees and shrubs, hedges, buldings and enclosures, as well as listing suitable trees and shrubs. Size: 4to - over 9¾" - 12" tall.

From the collection of C E Hubbard, the British botanist (1900-1980). Ten issues in sequence from No. 1 to 10 of the French periodical Le Bambou, first issued on 15th January 1906.Privately bound together in a blue hardcover binding with title in gilt on spine. The front pastedown has C E Hubbard stamped in black and below it, Hubbards' signature. Issue no.1 of Le Bambou bears the inscription in ink "Hommage de l'auteur" and the signature of the author, Jean Houzeau De Lehaie below. The issues are all in very good condition, with light sunning to text edges. 1-295pp. Occasional b/w illustrations. Scarce. Size: 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" tall.

This book discusses London botanic gardens in general, as well as including specific chapters on Kew Gardens, The Chelsea Physic Garden and The Royal Botanic society's gardens in Regents Park. This book was originally a series of papers that appeared in the American Journal of Pharmacy, and the gardens are considered mainly in their pharmaceutical aspects, so that the Chelsea Physic garden receives the largest share of attention. Size: 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" tall.

Condition: Fair to good, covers are generally soiled and shelfworn with bumping to spine and cover corners. A quarter inch of cloth at top of spine is split. Binding sound. Some notes in pencil on reverse of fep. Six coloured plates (Inc.frontispiece and vignette on title page) drawn by W.Dickes and six further b/w plates. A couple of the plates have watermarks to the top right hand corners, not affecting the text in any way. 12mo - over 6¾" - 7¾" tall.
