Descripción:
1994. Ephemera. Very good. Leviathan '99 was the working title for Ray Bradbury's effort to adapt Moby-Dick for the space age. He spent four decades on the project, translating his ideas into different genres, beginning with a radio play in 1968 and ending with a novella in 2007. He also wrote stage play and opera versions, as well as this screenplay, which seems to be unrecorded. This 87-leaf working draft is assembled from a hodge-podge of sources, including word processing printouts, one of Bradbury's holiday broadsides, and faxes sent to and from his daughter. Bradbury has corrected, added, and deleted words by hand from almost every page. The basis of the screenplay seems to be the radio play written in the late 1960s, rather than the later stage play or opera versions. Bradbury's extensive changes, while keeping much of the dialog intact, offer an interesting look at how he reconceptualized the story from the purely auditory radio version to one intended to encompass both sound and image. The…

Phoenix, AZ: Imperial Litho/Graphics, 1989. First Edition. Ephemera. Fine. This is the second portfolio of Barks offset lithographs with this title. As with the 1986 version, this collection contains 10 previously unpublished preliminary works made by Barks before starting work on full-fledged oil paintings. These images vary in size, from roughly 7 by 9 inches to 12 by 15 inches. These paintings were done between 1983 and 1988 and feature Uncle Scrooge and other Donald Duck relatives. Each lithograph print is numbered and initialed by Barks. There is a matching certificate of authenticity with the same number and a full Carl Barks signature. The paper portfolio measures roughly 15 by 17-1/2 inches and is printed with the title in metallic red ink. All ten lithographs are fine, initialed, and numbered by Barks as 450/500. The certificate of authenticy is also fine and signed in full by Barks. The sheet, A History of the Edition, which describes each lithograph, is fine and present. The paper…

Yellin bound in blank sheets at the front of the book so that collectors could accumulate film autographs there. In his introduction, he explains the idea, which he first introduced in the book Signatures: "There was also an abundance of white space, and what went unsaid [in Signatures] (and perhaps I was remiss in not stating it) was that each book, as delivered to the purchaser, was intended as a jumping-off point, an opportunity for each owner to gather within it their own choice of contributors and signatories ultimately making each book unique." 224 pages. The final script for the movie was 134 leaves, meaning this version has 52 pages that were cut by the time George Roy Hill started directing the action. This is an early draft of this adaptation of Vonnegut's science fiction anti-war novel, which magnificently weaves together the Dresden firebombing during the Second World War, optometry, time travel, and space aliens. And so it goes. Of course, the film never uses Vonnegut's catchphrase, employed whenever someone dies in the novel, which is often. It appears that the decision to leave it out of the film was made even in this first draft (your lazy cataloguer did not read the whole screenplay, but if Billy Pilgrim says "so it goes", I couldn't find it). Instead, Geller uses "So it goes" to replace the traditional "THE END" on the last page, writing instead: "The…
