Henry Drummond (1786-1860) was an English author, banker and politician best known as a founder of the Catholic Apostolic Church, also known as the Irvingian Church. Very Good, quarter calf over paper covered boards, expertly rebacked early 19th c., with gilt lettering and rules, decorative end papers. Boards bumped and rubbed at edges. Vol. II with six fold-out plates engraved on copper at the end of the volume, representing geometric figures, diagrams (of astronomy), a terrestrial globe, instruments of physics and the 12 astrological signs. Possibly David Goodwin (c.1744-1825), who served as a militia officer during the Revolutionary War, later represented Charlestown in the Massachusetts legislature, and he was a founding member of the Massachusetts Bible Society.
