First edition. 280 p.; ill.; 21 cm. Includes indices (135-277). Black cloth hardcover with gilt lettering to spine, shows minor shelfwear, including bumping and some staining to foredges, and is slightly shaken, but internally Near Fine. Dust jacket has some chipping, tears, etc. but is now housed in a protective plastic jacket to prevent further wear. From dust jacket: Is British Justice, in its most vital aspect—the trial of a man for his life —as just as it is thought to be? This penetrating inquiry into the much. argued Evans case suggests that, in spite of the safeguards of which we British are so proud, a man was sent to his death for a murder he did not commit, on evidence apparently overwhelming—evidence supported and corroborated by Christie, the chief prosecution witness called by the Crown, who as he stood in the witness box was already a multi-murderer and was actually accused by Evans of being just such a murderer. This inquiry is not lightly made. It argues the case for Evans'…

240 p.; ill. (diagrams); 18 cm. A vintage mass market paperback, shows moderate wear to covers, including spine creasing, there is the expected discolouration of paper, and the previous owner's details in pen to the inside of the front cover. There was a small stain noted on one page (see pictures) but otherwise the book seems to be in Near Fine condition. From the rear: EDGAR CAYCE'S INCREDIBLE HEALING POWER is recorded fact. Thousands of microfilms filed at the foundation for psychic research at Virginia Beach testify to Cayce's ability to diagnose, prescribe, and cure the ills of people whose names and locations he was given, but whom he had never seen. Known as "The Miracle Man of Virginia Beach," his successes astonished medical authorities—and the world. MANY MANSIONS is Dr. Cerminara's account of these healings—and an affirmation of the age-old belief in reincarnation. She tells how Cayce saw past the barriers of space and time, how he penetrated the "previous" lives of his subjects, and…

(Voir en bas pour la traduction en français.) Rare collection. This set of periodicals was originally bound for the library of one Monseigneur Maurice Baudoux (1902-1988), Officer of the Order of Canada and archbishop of Saint Boniface, Manitoba, Canada. He was awarded the honour of the OC for his work in the western provinces on behalf of French Canada. The binder was the Montréal-based Reliure Deshaies & Associes. The present listing includes 11 bound volumes of periodicals, in orange/brown hardcover, which contain an estimated 16500 pages in total. French language. The sizes vary from 28 - 35 cm tall. Note that there are two gaps in this collection (most of 1962 and 1968). The volumes are, by and large, in Very Good condition. Most of the covers show mild to moderate shelfwear, including but not limited to scrapes and rubbing, and a few are predictably shaken (very thick volumes) but otherwise securely bound without any major defect. Internally, the covers of each issue are generally somewhat…

First Edition. xxxi, 216 p.; ill., 60 plates; 24 cm. Includes Index (pp. 209-216).Blue cloth hardcover shows moderate wear, including but not limited to sunning to both covers and spine, and is slightly shaken. The top foredge is coloured blue, and he other edges are deckled. Apart from the aforementioned and the expected aging of paper, the book is in Near Fine condition, bright, clear, clean, and illustrated profusely with artwork, diagrams, and portraits. This book hails from the library of Dr. James Wellington Crane (1877-1959), bearing an illustrated book plate to that effect, and his signature on the title page. The book also sports a stamp from the Department of Public Welfare, Geriatric Centre in Toronto, where it was donated as part of the Dr. James W. Crane Collection, and a few library markings in pen and pencil. The rear free endpaper contains a handwritten note and a pasted clipping of what appears to be the 1941 ad from a used book salesman in 1941 from whom Crane purchased this copy.…

xiii, 744 p.; 24 cm. Includes Bibliography (pp. 619-692) and indices (pp. 725-744). Black cloth hard cover with gilt lettering to spine shows some edgewear and minor aging, with light foxing to endpapers, but the textblock is pristine, with no noticed markings, creases, or other defects. Dust jacket is price-clipped and is slightly faded, with wear commensurate with age, including small tears, but is housed in a protective cover to prevent further wear. At times surprisingly lucid, but often (and even hilariously) incorrect, it should be noted that the material contained in this book is extremely dated. Be prepared to encounter such as gems as: "Absolute women homosexuals are more psychopathic than men" (p. 610). From the dust jacket: THE SEXUAL OFFENDER AND HIS OFFENSES represents the first major work on the descriptive and clinical aspects of sexual abnormalities since Krafft-Ebing's Psychopathia Sexualis. It goes far beyond any existing work in charting and establishing the background and clinical…

Advance Reading Copy. 280 p. Price correction to rear and extremely mild edgewear, otherwise Fine, seemingly unread. From the back: Dr. Phillip Sharpe, absent-minded professor extraordinaire, teaches philosophy at the University of Toronto and is one of Canada's most combative public intellectuals. But when a live TV debate with his fiercest rival goes horribly off the rails, an oblivious Philip says some things to her that he really shouldn't have. As a clip of Phillip's "slip" goes viral, it's soon reveals all of the cracks and fissures in his marriage with his young, stay-at-home wife, Grace. And while the two of them try to get on the same side of the situation, things quickly spiral out of control. Can Philip make amends and save his marriage? Is there any hope of salvaging his reputation? To do so, he'll need to take a hard look at his on-air comments and conscript a band of misfits in a scheme to set things right.

Presumably first edition. 263 p.; ill. Some shelfwear. From the back: Political suspects and other prisoners face torture in police stations, secret detention centres, camps and military barracks in countries throughout the world in the 1980s. "All I can remember is seeing myself dead," recounts one among the thousands of victims — a survivor freed after international appeals demanded his release . From the security headquarters in Spain to the prison cells of Iran, from secret police centres in Chile to the psychiatric hospitals in the Soviet Union, this report confronts allegations of torture and ill-treatment of prisoners in more than 90 countries. It presents detailed evidence drawn from the impartial research of Amnesty International, the independent human rights movement that works for the release of all prisoners of conscience, fair trials for political prisoners and an end to torture and executions. The report, covering a wide range of abuses, cites cases including systematic torture during… Leer más

Vintage paperback with red foredges and green pictorial cover, shows moderate external wear, including spine creasing, and the spine is starting in a few places, but otherwise in Very Good+ condition, with bright, clean, and clear text, liberally illustrated with over 80 photographic images from the film. A screenplay translated from the French original. "Nearly four decades after its release, "The Wild Child" remains startling for its humane clarity, for Nestor Almendros's brilliant black-and-white photography, and for the sense that Truffaut is achieving filmmaking mastery on a very small scale." —Ty Burr From the rear: "....The extraordinary quality of this film comes from its restraint, its pathetic simplicity.... A picture of indescribable purity which places Truffaut among the biggest idealists....
