The book itself is in nice shape for the age and is in blue cloth with yellow title panel to front board and type on spine. Very light dings to three corners and few marks. Page ends lightly tanned. Clean interior and tight binding. Jacket is unclipped ($2.00) with 1 by 1 1/4 inch chip to bottom of front panel and smaller chips to spine ends and corners. Some falking to flap crease and spine ends and short tears mostly to top edges.

New York: Pantheon Books, 1977. First US Edition/First Printing. Hardcover. Near Fine/Near Fine. The first book in the author's iconic series that launched tartan noir. First American Edition stated. A beautiful copy in black cloth with bright gilt and blue ink to type. Sharp corners, clean interior and tight binding. Just a few tiny spots of tanning to endpapers likely from binding glue. Jacket is unclipped ($7.95) with nick to bottom edge of front panel and small dent to rear panel.

Edgewear and rubbing through cloth at bumped corners and spine ends. Some soiling/spots to cloth. Rough early repairs to front and rear hinges with cuts through pastedowns and hinge tape. Very small embossed bookstorre stamp to ffep. Initials in pencil to rear pastedown. A little foxing to first few pages. Illustrations by Sidney Paget. Twenty Third Thousand.

Net) with small chips and short tears at corners and spine ends. Tape repair to top of spine on inside.

Small scuff to top rear corner and a couple 'bracket' stamps to ffep and bottom of signature page, otherwise sharp corners, clean interior and tight binding. Unclipped jacket has publisher's 'Signed First Edition' sticker to front panel and is beautiful.

All show wear: Creasing to spines and covers, edgewear, scars, etc. Two have large bookplates to inside front covers and one of these has some moisture staining to top page ends going a little into text block. Jacket is unclipped ($3.50) with wear and call number sticker to bottom of spine with associated tear and abrasion from removal attempt.

Statement on copyright page dated 1929 with no other printings mentioned. In lavender cloth with yellow type. Bump to bottom front corner with lesser ding to bottom rear. Small sticker shadow to front board and general spotting/light soiling to boards. Spine is well faded and tinted top page ends have some marks and spotting. Front hinge a little shaken, but binding solid. Some smudging to endpapers and dedication page. In brand new high quality facsimile.

An ex-library copy rebound in blue cloth with white type and rounded corners. Stated 'Second Printing Before Publication'. Stamp and two pen marks to top page ends and two withdrawn stamps to front pastedown and page following which is not ffep which has been removed leaving some paper scarring. Reviews affixed opposite title page which along with TOC have stamps and notatations. Due slip and tape shadows to rfep and writing in pencil to gutter of pages prior. Some marks/spots and stamps to pages and a few creased corners. Jacket is unclipped ($2.50) and in great shape as was protected all this time in heavy duty protector. Small tape shadows to tops and bottoms of flaps with some associated nicks and a few tiny chips to spine ends. Light scuffing to rear panel.
