Descripción:
Onboard U.S. Steamer Cosmopol, Saint John's River, Florida / Savannah, 1886. Unbound. Fine. Three leaves folded to make 12pp. Fine. A pencil-written four-page shipboard letter from Saint John's River dated on Wednesday, 11 April 1886, continued three days later in an eight-page letter written in ink from Savannah. Signed "Sister" and addressed to "Brother," both the writer and recipient were from the Pettibone family of Winchester, Connecticut. Old folds, some rubbing on one penciled leaf, but overall very readable and otherwise fine. "Sister" gives an account of going to Florida on her vacation from school. The first four pages tell of a group of fellow passengers, teachers and missionaries "...in our party are five ladies from Savannah, five from Hilton Head & six or seven from Charleston, &c." traveling with Louise and her father Rev. Ira Pettibone. They suffer sea sickness en route, and then arrive off Fernandina, only to be greeted by a shot overhead from the local Fort, bringing them up…

Descripción:
1781. Unbound. Very Good. Manuscript Document. Oblong quarto (13 ½" x 9"). One manuscript page of accounts listed from April through July (1781) in two columns under the title: "Schooner Catey in Acct. Courant with John Hall". Docketed on verso: "Acct. Current of Schooner Katey, July 16, 1781". Old folds, small tear at lower right corner tip, very good or better. Included among the list of supplies and cargo is an entry "To: paid Jeremiah Wadsworth Esq. for [16?] Swivel Guns"; together with four other debit entries of amounts owed to Wadsworth. The Connecticut born Wadsworth (1743-1804), celebrated today as "a key player in the military victory in the Revolution," served as a soldier and applied his experience as a successful Hartford merchant to securing essential supplies for Continental Army troops and, later in the war, for America's French allies. In 1781 he was agent to French Soldiers at Newport, Rhode Island: there are two entries from April 10th for "freight to Middletown [Connecticut],"…

Descripción:
[Maryland?], 1822. Good. Broadside. Tall folio (7" x 12¼"). Text printed in two columns. Signed in letterpress: John Rentch. July 20, 1822. Moderate toning, a few small stains at the margins, some creasing along two old horizontal folds, a few small nicks and closed tears along the bottom horizontal fold with slight loss of one printed word, good overall. An address by John Rentch, a member of the Troop of the Washington Hussars, concerning two elections for officers of the Troop, the first of which was postponed by the active commander, Capt. John V. Swearingen: "But as soon as we were ready to proceed with the election, Capt. Swearingen stated to the Troopers, that he was not ready to give up the command on that day ..." Apparently, at the second election, John Rentch was elected as Captain, but the election was later overturned by petition of John Swearingen. Rentch presents his case for re-instatement. Scarce.
