New Ipswich, New Hampshire, 1861. Hardcover. Good. Octavo. 58 leaves. Red leather binding with embossed border designs and gilt stamped illustrations with "Autographs" on the front board. Wear on the board edges; spine is rubbed and chipped with partial loss of the word "Autograph" and yellow right front end sheet has been removed, thus good only. The majority of the album dates between 1861-1864 with the most cited location being Appleton Academy in New Ipswich, New Hampshire. A Civil War-era autograph album which includes a signed CDV photograph card of E.T. Quimby. He also inscribed the third leaf. Elihu T. Quimby was the Principal of Appleton Academy until 1864 when he left to take a position at Dartmouth College. This album also includes a 1864 autograph of Lucretia P. Hale, most likely the same person who wrote *The Peterkin Papers*. There are several more autographs inside including one from noted editor and author, Amos Kidder Fiske. (Dry Fork, Virginia, 1864. Unbound. Near Fine. Autograph Letter, Signed. Octavo. 1p. Dry Fork, Virginia: February 16, 1864. Two small holes from gall ink erosion, else fine. Chaney notifies his commander that he has been unable to obtain any corn but did manage to purchase two mules for $1000 each. This letter was written a few months before the Battle of Piedmont in Virginia on June 5, 1864. Chaney, though wounded in the foot, remained in command of his company throughout the engagement. Confederate forces were eventually routed after severe fighting.

(St. Helena Island, South Carolina, 1864. Unbound. Near Fine. Autograph Letter, Signed. Octavo. 2pp. U.S. Sloop of War Saratoga, St. Helena Island, South Carolina: Sept 18 [1864]. Near fine. In this letter addressed to his parents, Thomas Hall gives a brief, detailed account of the USS *Saratoga's* military raids of August and September, 1864. The letter reads in part: "The Steamer *Harvest Moon* came up last night bringing dispatches and a mail. I received two letters one directed May 29th and Sept 4th. We have been blockading off the coast of Georgia in Doboy and St. Andrews Sound, Georgia. We came up here about two weeks ago. I am detached at present on the Schooner *Wild Cat* doing picket duty between Port Royal and here. We were on 8 or 9 expeditions while we were at Doboy Sound. this is the first chance we have had of sending letters since we left Port Royal. Lyon County, Kansas, 1868. Unbound. Near Fine. Autograph Letter Signed. Octavo. 2pp., Waterloo, Lyon Co., Kansas: 7mo 28, 1868. In ink, with the location and date overwritten in pencil. Two light horizontal folds, near fine. Written by John M. Wetherell, a wealthy Quaker businessman from Philadelphia interested in purchasing land for a Quaker colony in Kansas. Writing to his wife and children, Wetherell describes taking a tour of lands in Franklin County and "through the Sac & Fox reserve to their lands in Osage Co. & since to part of those in Osage & Lyon County ..." He expects "to get over the balance tomorrow," and "to be at Friend's meeting at Emporia tomorrow ..." In 1867 a treaty had been made with the Sac and Fox to remove from Kansas to Indian Territory in Oklahoma. By November 1868 the United States Government had forced most of the Sac and Fox peoples to move to the Oklahoma. Beatrice, Nebraska, 1890. Very Good. Autograph Letter Signed. Octavo. 4pp. Beatrice, Nebraska: October 10, 1890. Written on two sheets of Colby's personal *Woman's Tribune* stationery. Light horizontal folds for mailing, very good. An informative letter by Colby, a British-American lecturer and publisher, women's rights activist, and suffragist leader. In 1883 she founded, published, and edited *The Woman's Tribune* which became the official publication of the National Woman Suffrage Association. The letter is addressed to fellow suffragist Julia Nelson, co-founder of the Minnesota Woman Suffrage Association in 1881 and a leader of the temperance movement. Colby inquires after Nelson's schedule, refers to attending meetings (including the Wisconsin Woman Suffrage Association), and proposes strategies for making "some sort of an alliance - offensive & defensive - with your headquarters with mine in Washington & together making a joint lecture bureau of our two selves: 1st to make expenses; 2d for… Leer más

Estill. 1891") in silver on front board and the number "322" on the rear. Light shelf wear, minor rubbing at the tips, else tight, bright, and unmarred, and near fine. The volume includes cabinet photographs of 15 members, many loosely inserted in page mounts, each signed below by the member. Additionally there are two unsigned photographs of unnamed older African-American men, presumably servants; and two additional images: one of the skull and bones, the of the ivy-covered entrance to the Tomb. (San Antonio: Southern Album Company), 1960. Hardcover. Very Good. 6.5" x 4" notebook kept by D.F. Wells, used for note taking while training with the United States Air Force in 1960. Notebook is very good with rubbing, years, and some toning. Roughly 65 pages of handwritten notes taken while undergoing training with the United States Air Force from January until May 1960. An early page states, "mission functions of the Air Force: gain and maintain air supremacy, to organize and equip the U.S. against air attacks, to maintain close combat support with the frontline forces, and develop weapons and tactics." Included are lessons on everything from first aid to how to write up a will; "the executor of a will should be a faithful friend." Wells draws detailed illustrations of missiles, "falcon," sidewinder," "genie," and "rascal," among others, all separated into categories such as "air to air" and "air to surface." Washington, D.C.: Georgetown University, 1970. Softcover. Very Good. First edition. Large square quarto. 92, [4]pp. Illustrated from photographs. Photographically-illustrated wrappers. Scrape in the bottom corner of the front wrap, soiling and small stains on the wrappers, some foxing modest foxing on a few pages, near very good. Indicated as Volume One, a memory book of Georgetown College, mostly photographs with minimal text, and with some concentration on protests and student politics. A somewhat ungainly and presumably isolated publication (we rather doubt their was a Volume Two) and very much of its time, displaying students preoccupation with politics and protest. *OCLC* locates no copies.

A.W. Faber, 1860. Unbound. Near Fine. Wooden box. Measuring 7¼" x 3½" x ½". Black paper covered lid with gilt decoration, hinged lid, and spring-loaded clasp, with a printed description in English and French mounted in the inside lid list each type of pencil and a divided paper tray in the bottom hold the pencils, each stamped with their model number. Very good or better with general wear, somewhat dulled gilt and lacking one original pencil and another laid in. Faber was a pioneering company that produced some of the highest quality pencil with various grade of "Polygrade-Lead" and with case unequaled in it's day. A remarkable surviving salesman's sample set.

Half textured leather, red clothcovered boards stamped in blank on the front boards with silver on the spines in a brown clothcovered slipcase with an illustrated paper label. Rubbing to the boards, else near fine in a very good or better slipcase with rubbing and shelfwear.

(Union County, Georgia), 1920. Very Good. A collection of 23 different gelatin silver photographs of the Chattahoochee National Forest in Northern Georgia during the 1920s. The photographs are generally about 10" x 6" in size, with a few smaller images. 14 of the images are mounted on gray cardstock (12" x 9½") with "U.S. Department of Agriculture Forest Service" printed along one edge and with half bearing a handwritten caption. On the rear of these is an envelope bearing a typed caption and number that corresponds to the number found in the lower right corner of the mounted photos. Eight of the envelopes contain duplicate copies of the mounted photo found on the front. Also presents are nine loose photographs, some with captions on the front or rear. The mounted photographs are generally near fine or better with the mounts about very good with wear to the corners including chips, rubbing and numerous pin holes; the loose photos are very good with most trimmed, some edge wear and scattered… Leer más

[30] leaves printed rectos only (one preliminary page provided for ownership notation, 29 pages of coupons, complete). Oblong 16mo? 5.5" x 2.75". Stapled orange pictorial thin card wrappers. Coupons in different color monetary denominations from one cent to one dollar. Apparently a coupon promotion capitalizing on the enthusiasm surrounding the World Columbian Exposition (although we doubt it had official sanction of the board of the Exposition, the booklets were sold by H. Ehrlich & Sons of St. Joseph, Missouri and customized to be used at W.L. Ayers, Meats and Groceries in Orleans, Nebraska. Presumably the coupon book was sold at a discounted price. This booklet was never used and apparently never sold or issued. Interesting tie-in marketing scheme.
