A special edition not for sale, limited to 1000 copies, The present copy is number 479. 211pp. table of contents and colophon, written in English and Italian with personal recollections of the man by Claudio Abbado, Renata Scotto, and Franco Zeffirelli, illustrated throughout by "real" photographs, single and double paged. This work is a tribute to Pavarotti's accomplishments beginning with his opera debut in La Boheme in 1961. This limited edition was not for sale but given to institutions, opera houses and some of the most prestigious libraries across the country and the world. Bound in black cloth decorated with clover, photographic pastedown of Pavaratti, lettering gilt, spine lettering gilt, housed within cloth covered slipcase. A fine bright copy.

. Pearl Besuner, Photographs and Promotional Leaflet. Pearl Besuner (1901-1991) was a longtime opera singer and player. Here are 2 8" x 10"photographs of her including one of her playing in Jack and the Beanstalk (with photograph by Carlo Edwards). She debuted at the Metropolitan Opera as Siebel in Faust. She was also one of the featured singers in the Golden Age of Opera series. Pitts Sanborn's The Prima Donna novel was based on her life. When she appeared in 1933 in Eugene O'Neill's The Emperor Jones (in blackface), it raised no objections but fans of the play's history today consider it one of those offensive issues that the audiences of 1933 did not consider strange. Very unusual to find a photograph of her in a play in a photograph taken by Carlo Edwards whose photographs are in collections at NYPL, Columbia and Yale as well as in private collections.

A marvelous photograph of the blues pianist and singer who popularized the hit "Merry Christmas, Baby". He composed and made a hit of "Drifting Blues" but after a decline in his career, Bonny Raitt made him her opening act and a whole new market discovered him. The photograph measuring 14" x 11" is undated but it appears to be circa 1955. He was inducted into the Rock-and-Roll Hall of Fame in March 1999 (just two months before his death on January).

New York: John Wanamaker, 1913. 5 1/2" x 6 1/2" (4) p. Pastedown picture of Leo Ornstein which is billed as his last recital. Though this was to be his last recital since he already wanted to leave the masters and began imagining and writing works with new sounds, dissonance, and the effects by 1914 led crowds not only to whistle and boo but to throw whatever objects might well stop his performance. No recorded copies on OCLC.

Includes photographs of interesting and prominent organists in the past 8 decades. Interior clean and tight, without marks. Outer wrappers are lightly soiled and darkened.

In Ravel's own words both written and spoken, we begin to understand the genius of the composer. The book begins with an overview of Ravel's career, personality, aesthetics, and his formal lecture: "Contemporary Music" which he presented in 1928. The next section contains letters from Cocteau, Colette, Faure, Stravinsky and others. Seciton III contains his articles (he was known as a brilliant critic). The final section has his press interviews between 1911 and 1933 with all the material fully annotated. In addition, there are sixteen plates and nine appendices as well as a unique discography. Essential for the devotee of Ravel's genius.

"discographies and rollographies", 249-255. The "king of ragtime" he refined the style which became the most influential of the early 20th Century. Bound in 1/4 black cloth over pictorial paper covered board depicting a photograph of Scott Joplin, lettering white over black, spine lettering gilt. A near fine copy.

First printing, 835pp., translated from the Russian, annotated and preface by Anthony Phillips, foreword by Svatoslav Prokofiev. An inexhaustibly rich portrait of a vibrant artistic culture on the edge of war and revolution. Prokofiev's diaries are both a dramatic illumination of a great composer's creativity and an indispensable contribution to our understanding of musical modernism.

Signed contract stenciled New York City 8 1/2" x 11" with the National Association of Recording Artists who had sought since June 1930 to protect their rights from the pirated wax recordings made from radio broadcasts. Bing Crosby, Paul Whiteman, and others joined the cause early, Cugat joining in 1935 but it was not until July 1939 that they won their case allowing artists to maintain control over mechanically reproduced music.

William H. Barr who had been the Master of Foxhunting at the Lake Short Hunt Club at Derby, New York supervised the search for songs relating to fox hunting. This small collection is unique. Bound in pictorial gilt maroon cloth, gilt lightly rubbed, previous owner's gift inscription and name stamp. A very good copy.
