Deluxe program in English text, illustrated throughout in black-and-white stills from the film, detailing the film synopsis. Also includes 8 full-color borderless film stills, akin to lobby cards, a brief filmography of director Renoir and transcript of an interview between Renoir and Georges Van Parys from January 1, 1955, and sheet music for the theme song, "Complainte de la butte." Housed in a Franco London Film folder with tipped-in plate reproducing Pierre-Auguste Renoir's "Le Moulin de la Galette," and film title in red, on the front wrapper. Based on the 1930 play "Waterloo Bridge" by Robert E. Sherwood. A ballet dancer meets and falls in love with a corporal but he is shipped off for the D-Day landing. When she gets word that he was killed she begins working as a prostitute, though he is alive and returns to London to find her. Set in London. 8 x 10 inches. Very Good, with creasing at the corners and along the right edge.

New York: Phoenix Films, 1976. Vintage black-and-white still photograph featuring belly dancer Katarina, from the 1976 short film "Gameel Gamal" (re-released as "Oh! Beautiful Dancer"), directed by Gordon Inkeles. Studio rubber stamp on the verso. Gordon Inkeles' 25-minute short presents a brief history of belly dancing, and the story of two young dancers, Katarina and Taia, who are breaking into the belly dance scene in San Francisco. The film contains entire belly dances by Katarina and Taia, and by their senior, Amina, who tells them to perform as if dancing for a king. The film is a satisfying introduction to belly dance aesthetics, while documenting San Francisco and it's thriving art performance culture. London: National Screen Service, 1972. Vintage full-color British front-of-house card from the UK release of the 1972 French film. A portrayal of dancers and their dedication rather than the glamour of performance itself. 8 x 10 inches. Very Good plus, with pinholes at the corners, with a few light creases.

Two vintage double-weight publicity photographs from the 1938 Broadway musical, one matte-finish, showing actress Vera Zorina and Dennis King, the other glossy, showing Zorina in a set of angel wings. With stamps for the play's release on the verso, one with the stamps of Lucas and Pritchard Studio and Dell Publishing Company and a date stamp reading JAN 13 1939, the other with the stamps of photographer Talbot and King Featyres Syndicate and a date stamp reading OCT 22 1939. A wealthy banker wishes for an angel to marry after his most recent engagement ends, but when an actual angel flies into his life, he finds her perfection suffocating. The show opened at the Shubert Theatre on May 11, 1938 and ran for 338 performances, closing on February 25, 1939. The production was later adapted for film by MGM in 1942, directed by W. S. Vintage poster for the performance of the 1989 dance piece by choreographer Louis Falco at the Tanz-Forum der Oper der Stadt Köln on May 9, 1989, with music by Bruce Springsteen (arranged by Hajo Stahl), libretto by Falco and Kitty Troll, and set, costume, and poster design by Jack Brusca, SIGNED and dated in the year of the production by Brusca in the bottom right. Louis Falco began his distinguished dance career in the late 1950s, while in his late teens, under Charles Weidman and José Limón, soon thereafter performing with Flower Hujer, Alvin Ailey, and Donald McKayle, among others. In 1967 Falco made his debut as a choreographer with the dance piece "Argot," and quickly created a unique and outstanding repertory, including "Huescape" (1968), "Timewright" (1969), and "The Sleepers" (1971). Los Angeles: Paramount Pictures, 1934. Vintage composite photograph of self-taught husband-and-wife ballroom dance team Frank Veloz and Yolanda Casazza dancing the "Viola Waltz," a dance created for the 1934 film. Mimeo snipe on the verso. From the archive of film historian and author Joel Finler. Veloz and Yolanda (as the couple were commonly known) were stars of ballroom dancing in the 1930s and 1940s, specializing in Latin ballroom styles. They opened a chain of studios in the 1940s, introducing many middle-class Americans to the dance form. "Many Happy Returns" was the first of several films for which the couple designed specialty choreography, followed by the Paramount film "Rumba" the following year. 10 x 8 inches. Near Fine.

New York: Duell, Sloan, and Pearce, 1947. Second Edition. INSCRIBED by the author on the front endpaper in 1949 to composer Arthur Berger: "For Arthur Berger / with the gratitude of / Merle Armitage / 1949." Berger and Armitage were not only contemporaries in the New York arts scene of the 1940s, they had a strong connection in a composer that had just preceded them, Igor Stravinsky. The work of both men-Armitage's work as an impresario and Berger's compositions-strongly reflected his influence, and both wrote essays on him, captured in the noted collection of essays on Stravinsky edited by Edwin Corle and published in 1949, the same year the book offered here was inscribed. Jacket is moderately faded at the spine panel and folds, but has no chips or tears. A survey of dance profusely illustrated with photographs and works of art from diverse cultures and periods throughout. Yellow pictorial endpapers by Picasso. A tremendous association.
