Four with stamps on verso stating costs of larger sizes, "25¢ each for 8x10 ... $1.00 each for 11x14." Actors in the collection include: Mary Astor, Richard Barthelmess, Clara Bow, Ann Harding, Leatrice Joy, Myrna Loy, Ramon Novarro, Aileen Pringle, Norma Shearer, and Claire Windsor, among others. Hollywood: Paramount Pictures. Final Draft script for the 1955 film. Actor Van Heflin's copy, with his name on the front wrapper and his manuscript annotations throughout. Based on the novel "Jovanka e le altre" by Urgo Pirro. Once branded himself by the House Un-American Activities Committee, award-winning director Martin Ritt focuses on the cruel branding of five women in this wartime drama. Some of his better-known films (The Spy Who Came In from the Cold, Norma Rae) also deal with the question of social and ethical choices in the face of pressure. In this story, the savagery of the Yugoslav partisans as they fight off Nazi occupation forces is also vented on five women accused of Nazi sympathies because of their sexual association with one German officer. The women (played by Silvana Mangano, Vera Miles, Barbara Bel Geddes, Jeanne Moreau, and Carla Gravina) have their heads shaved in order to brand them as traitors. N.p.: N.p., 1937. Two vintage photographs of publisher Rob Wagner and comedian Eddie Cantor on the set of the 1937 film. In one photograph both men are accompanied by a couple (identified in manuscript pencil on the verso as "Tom Moriarty and his wife") and in the other photograph the two men are joined by actor Roland Young. Wagner was the editor and publisher of "Script," a left-leaning, weekly literary film magazine published in Beverly Hills between 1929 and 1949. Cantor was one of the early contributors to "Script." 10 x 8 inches. Near Fine.

Paris: Cocinor, 1956. Vintage studio still photograph from the 1956 film. The culmination of director Roger Vadim's fascination with Brigitte Bardot. The pair had been dating since 1950 (when she was 15 years old and he was 22) and were married in 1952. The film remains one of the most single-minded tributes to an actress by a film auteur, and in twentieth century film-obsessed France, there was perhaps never a more celebrated cinematic couple. The two would part ways the following year amidst rumors of affairs, but remained close friends. Shot on location in Saint-Tropez, France. 10 x 8 inches. Culver City, CA: RKO Radio Pictures, 1937. Revised Final Draft script for the 1937 film. Copy belonging to Van Heflin, with his manuscript annotations throughout. A romantic drama set to the back drop of the Annapolis Naval Academy. Bill Martin, a young midshipman, must chose between his love for Julia and his commitment to the navy in this 1937 film. Mint green titled wrappers, rubber-stamped as Revised Final script on the front wrapper, rubber-stamped copy No. 70, dated May 18, 1937, with credits for writers Cabanne and Twist. Distribution page present, with receipt removed. 140 leaves, mimeograph duplication, with annotations throughout. Pages Very Good, wrapper Very Good, bound with three gold brads.

N.p.: N.p., 1958. Archive of four vintage photo negatives of actress Jayne Mansfield. One negative with the year "1957" in manuscript ink annotation on the margin of the sleeve, along with the name of the film "The Sheriff of Fractured Jaw," a Western film in which Mansfield starred. From the archive of film historian and author Joel Finler. One negative shows Mansfield holding her infant son Miklós Jeffrey Palmer Hargitay, the eldest of three children Mansfield would have with her second husband, Mickey Hargitay. Another negative shows Mansfield seemingly naked under a fur-lined white blanket. The other two negatives show Mansfield in a costume from "The Sheriff of Fractured Jaw," sporting a black corset top and bikini bottoms with a pink feather headpiece and flounced bustle. Three negatives measuring 1 x 1.5 inches, and one negative measuring 3.5 x 4.5 inches. Very Good plus. Housed in a small, contemporary Very Good plus brown paper envelope.

N.p.: N.p., 1962. Archive of over 120 family photographs and personal ephemera belonging to William Bendix, circa 1944-1962. The archive also includes material relating to his wife, Theresa Bendix, and his daughters, Lorraine and Stephanie. Included in the archive is a photograph of Bendix, inscribed by Bendix to his daughter Stephanie: "To My Darling / Stephanie / with all / My Love / Daddy." Also included is an oversize portrait photograph of Bendix with his wife Theresa, circa 1950, housed in a matted photograph studio folder, and an early photograph, circa 1920, possibly of a young Bendix with his parents. William Bendix was an American stage, film, radio, and television actor who is best remembered as one of television's archetypal patriarchs, the blundering Chester A. Riley in "The Life of Riley," first on the 1944-1951 ABC and NBC radio serial, then in the 1949 film, directed by Irving Brecher, then finally in the 1953-1958 NBC television series. Archive of five vintage oversize press photographs by Michael Montfort of actor Klaus Kinski, his second wife, actor Brigitte Tocki, and their then five year old daughter, actor Nastassja Kinksi. From the photographer's estate. The photographs show Kinski with his family, the images generally painting a picture of Kinski as a loving husband and doting father, and an altogether happy family, images in stark contrast to both Kinski's already well deserved reputation for violent and erratic behavior and the truth of his family's domestic life. An early example of the self aware myth making Kinski would engage in for much of hsi career, though running counter to the public image he would embrace and embellish later in life. Born in Freiburg, Germany, Michael Montfort began his career working as a photojournalist for German magazines such as "Stern," "Quick," and "Bild am Sonntag." Archive includes three photographs of Jack Nicholson, two black and white and one color, one black-and-white photograph of Angelica Huston, one color photograph of Ingrid Boulting, one black-and-white photograph of Veruschka von Lehndorff, and one color photograph of Appolonia Van Ravenstein. Archive of materials for "The Society," an short-lived film production organization looking to produce "films which are agreeable and acceptable to all audiences [...] the classic western, the detective story, the family comedy, the simple uncomplicated love story, the science fiction thriller and always the Halloween Eve horror thriller." To our knowledge the organization never produced a completed film, thus remaining entirely conceptual. Archive includes five copies of an introductory pamphlet discussing the group's goals and prospective production costs, values, and procedures, as well as two treatment scripts for two unproduced films, "The Seven Inch Wilderness" and "The Irish Game." "The Seven Inch Wilderness" is based on Danish-American novelist Ib Melchior's 1980 science fiction novel "The Marcus Device," about a test pilot who suffers amnesia when his experimental plane crashes. 1969. Autograph note signed from composer Adele Franz to producer Daniel Selznick. The note, executed on Franz's stationery, noting that she is delivering herewith the LP soundtrack recording for an obscure play titled, "Long Time Between Loves," along with a script for same. Included is a photostat of Selznick's detailed response, in which he mentions his favorite songs on the record, noting that it has "the primitive charm of French cabaret music." Adele Franz worked most notably as an actress under the name Adele Longmire, and is best known for her roles in "Battle Circus" (1953) and the film noir, "The Turning Point" (1952). Daniel Selznick, the son of David O. Selznick, is best known as a producer for films such as Peter Bogdanovich's "Targets" (1968) and various documentaries about Hollywood. His association with his father allowed him many opportunities to meet and correspond with numerous actors, actresses, and directors of note. Note: 5 x 4 inches. Autograph note signed from a very young Angelica Huston to "Uncle Paul," John Huston's longtime agent Paul Kohner, thanking him for the Christmas gift of a "[pair of] mittens and cap." She goes on to detail gifts she received from her father, mother, and Santa, as well as a gift her brother Tony received. Although the note is undated (other than "Sunday"), it bears the address of "St. Clerans, Craughwell," in Co. Galway, Ireland where John Huston purchased an estate and moved his family in 1956. In the note, Angelica Huston also mentions she "will wear [the mittens and cap] in Switzerland." Given that she was five when the family moved to Ireland, and that the handwriting is clearly a young child's, we speculate that this is an oblique (and unknowing) reference to her father being attached to direct and ultimately quitting David O. Released in the UK as "Polly Fulton," because "B.F" is a British euphemism for "bloody fool." Polly (Stanwyck) is the daughter of a wealthy industrialist, about to marry a lawyer. Then she meets Tom (Heflin), who blames the world's problems on the rich. Despite their differences, they fall in love and marry. WWII takes Tom to the nation's capital, and their relationship begins to spiral into turmoil. Nominated for an Academy Award. Lacks front studio wrapper and title page, rear wrapper is gray. 131 leaves, mimeograph duplication, with pink and white revision pages throughout, dated variously between 9-10-47 and 9-30-47. Extremely watchable trash, a big-budget film with lowdown agenda, and the last film in which Elizabeth Taylor, who won an Oscar for her performance, could have been accurately described as young and radiant. Something of an American answer to De Sica's "Madame De..." with the object in question being a fur coat rather than a pair of earrings. Shot on location in New York. 8 x 10 inches. Very Good plus, with extensive annotations to the verso in red felt-tipped ink, blue ink, and manuscript graphite.

Culver City, CA: RKO Radio Pictures, 1941. Vintage keybook photograph from the 1941 film, showing actors Gary Cooper, Barbara Stanwyck, and Richard Haydn. With a printed mimeo snipe affixed to the verso, along with the stamp of the Advertising Advisory Council dated NOV 13 1941. A group of bachelor professors living together in a New York brownstone have worked for years on a massive encyclopedia of all human knowledge, but find their research disrupted by the arrival of a vivacious nightclub performer (Stanwyck), who needs a place to hide from the police. Universal City: Universal Pictures, 1940. Two vintage reference photographs from the set of the 1940 film. One with a printed mimeo snipe affixed to the verso. Egbert Souse, a slovenly drunk, finds himself in several different positions of employment through sheer luck and happenstance. After being hired on the spot to replace a film crew's no-show movie director, Souse unintentionally thwarts a bank robbery and is immediately offered a job as a security guard. 8 x 10 inches. Very Good plus, lightly creased on the edges.
