London: Barrie and Rockliff, 1966. Gold title and decoration on blue boards which have a small white mark to back, a minor mark to front and a bump to one front corner. Internally there are two pages which have small holes which although affecting the text the text can still be discerned else very clean, tight and unmarked. 457 pages. 15 Illustrations. Translated, edited and with an introduction by Robert Baldick. Monsieur Nicholas is the story of Restif's life down to 1797, the facts of which are probably embroidered, but nevertheless the work remains a picture of 18th century society and as a frank and searching autobiography. It contains at the end 'Tenth Epoch' - My Last Afflictions and my Approaching End. 202. First Edition. Hard Cover. Very Good/No Jacket. 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" tall.

London: Dennis Dobson, 1946. Gilt title on blue cloth boards which are very clean and unmarked with no wear. Internally there is a small name to front endpaper and light foxing to closed edges and endpapers else very clean, tight and unmarked. A Very Good + copy. Dustjacket has light wear to edges, two small repaired closed tears and is not price clipped.232 pages. 5 illustrations. Translated from the French by Ruth Bethell. Charles Péguy (1873-1914) was a noted French poet, essayist, and editor, and Catholicism strongly influenced his works. It is remarkable that no book has yet been produced in England about Péguy, and this translation from the French fills the gap. It is a complete biography taking in the whole of Péguy's life from childhood to his death on the Marne in 1914, by a bullet to the forehead. The author was his friend and colleague for many years. C3A. First Edition. Hard Cover. Very Good/Very Good. 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" tall.
