Panni's book remains the ultimate artistic guide to the city of Cremona. The introduction focuses on the conservation of early paintings, and the text covers the major architectural monuments of the city and the artwork inside each cathedral, church and chapel. Anton-Maria Panni (1730-1790) was a painter and architect from Cremona who, in his Distinto Rapporto concentrates more on the interior decoration (especially paintings) than any other feature in the guide. He often supplies names of the painters, even if the picture is unsigned. Sheet size: ca. 350 x 257 mm. All preserved in a large folio sized modern maroon cloth box. Paris: Leviez, 1770. First State of these whimsical architectural fantasies by the artist responsible for the popularity of Chinoiserie, Jean Pillement. Pillement (1728-1808) was the most prolific and successful master of rococo fantasy of his time and his designs were adopted by countless leading artistic manufactories. Some marginal slight staining and foxing and small repairs. The plates themselves are clean with fine impressions. Guilmard p.189.

1899. CRUSIUS, Louis. Calendrier Antikamnia pour 1900. 6 plates printed on both sides. 8vo, in wrappers as issued, in a new board folder and cloth slipcase. St. Louis: The Antikamnia Chemical Company, 1899. The St. Louis pharmacist and physician Louis Crusius was an artist by avocation who created gruesomely humorous medical caricatures for display in the family drugstore. He sold designs to the Antikamnia Chemical Company, a maker of patent medicines, which published them in a series of 5 advertising calendars which were distributed as holiday keepsakes between 1897 and 1901. All are now rare with OCLC listing copies at SUNY Buffalo, Delaware and Brown. In fine condition.

Oblong folio, 291 x 352 mm., bound in original tan cloth. San Francisco: The Arion Press, 2000. An immaculate copy of this important book, first published in 1923, which has long been considered one of the most important works of the Harlem Renaissance. Martin Puryear contributed a stunning set of illustrations and Andrew Hoyem designed an elegant book which does justice to both the author and the artist. The historian Leon Litwack has contributed an essay placing the book in historical context. One of an edition of 350 copies signed by the artist, and already scarce. 1983. BEARDEN, Romare. The Caribbean Poetry. By Derek Walcott. Introduction by Joseph Brodsky. 232 pp. Illustrated with eight coloured illustrations by Romare Bearden. 4to., bound in original publisher's linen silkscreened after a design by Bearden, in the publisher's cardboard slipcase (lightly sunned spine). New York: Limited Editions Club, 1983. One of the very few books illustrated by an African-American artist. From a total edition of 2000, this one containing the loose original, numbered lithograph. Bearden executed 8 lithographs, each in an edition of 250 copies, which were inserted in the books, and most of which have long since been removed. The colophon is signed by both the author and the artist. Derek Walcott, called "the first outstanding poet of the Caribbean" is a native of St. Lucia off the coast of Venezuela. Dodge Corporation, 1944. An immaculate copy of a fragile work rarely found thus. This is the first of Sutnar's three groundbreaking works on design. Catalog Design introduced the basic concepts in catalog design. Designing Information applied the basic concepts of information design to a broader range, and lastly Catalog Design Progress further developed ideas in visual communication.

Paris: Fournier, 1845. A fine copy of this delightful Grandville work, preserved in the scarce publisher's polychrome binding. While this book lacks the surreal qualities of Un Autre Monde, the presence of a substantial number of anthropomorphic illustrations in the manner of those which had appeared in Scenes de la vie privee et public des animaux, elevate it above the typical "romantique" book, and make it a worthy addition to the Grandville oeuvre. A fine copy of this typical example of Tuttle's work as a book artist, consisting of two grey cardboard folios, with collaged cardboard die-cuts of letters and partial letters on rectos on second folio. The design of collaged letters is repeated as screenprint in silver on front. Accompanied by a text by Tuttle on the verso of the second folio. Extremely rare and attractive isotype book from the period of the Third Czechoslovak Republic (1945-1948), which lays out the Benes "Two-Year Plan" created as a path to reconstruct the country's tattered economy following six years of German occupation during the Second World War. The rarity of this book likely relates to the change of regimes in Czechoslovakia as a result of the 1948 Communist Coup. Soiling to the wrappers, but internally immaculate. Apparently unrecorded.

The book is a combination of colourful initials, vignettes and full-page plates, designed and printed by Joyce Lancaster Wilson and skillfully printed by her husband, the renowned San Franciscan scholar-printer Adrian Wilson, in Centaur and Arrighi types. One of 500 copies, signed by the illustrator.
