Descripción:
[Annapolis]: Maryland State Archives, 2009. First printing. Softcover. Quarto. [ii], 46 pages. New. Well illustrated in color and black and white. The only detailed account of Abraham Lincoln's passage through Annapolis on his way to and from the Hampton Roads Conference in early February, 1865.

The extensive research for this project turned up interesting but forgotten aspects of local and national history. For example, the Maryland Legislature was debating ratification of the 13th Amendment to abolish slavery on the very morning that President Lincoln quietly walked past the State House, unbeknownst to the legislators inside. The amendment had passed Congress two days earlier on January 31st, and had been hand-delivered to the Maryland Legislature on February 1st.

Research also rediscovered both the proper location of the train depot in 1865 as well as the route of the military railroad tracks hastily laid through town by General Benjamin… Leer más

New York: John A. Gray, Printer, 1860. Wrappers. 24mo 5" - 6" tall. 29 pages. Very Good. Small pamphlet with original printed wrappers over a sewn binding. Some light overall soil, covers split along lower 1" of spine.. Correspondence related to accusations of libel made by Gerrit Smith against Royal Phelps and Watts Sherman of the New York Democratic Vigilant Association. The dispute arose from the latter publishing a "Manifesto" in which it was alleged that Gerrit Smith had full prior knowledge of John Brown's plan at Harper's Ferry. That Smith was well acquainted with and had supported Brown was not disputed, but Smith denied knowing Brown's plans for a bloody uprising.

(S.l.): (S.n.), 1940. Saddle-stapled wrappers. Octavo. [8] pages. Very good, with some edge wear and separation to covers at bottom 2" of spine.. Black & white halftones from photographs. Interesting booklet on Ray R. Myers, born without arms. Though a circus sought to employ him at age 3, his parents chose to give him as normal a life as they could. He learned to play the trombone and the guitar while in high school. He was discovered by Cowboy Loye and began a career in music.

Myers did a stint with Robert Ripley and his Odditorium in 1933, but decided against a career as a freak. He seemed able to overcome any obstacle, as photos herein show him driving a car, smoking cigarettes, firing a rifle, and more--all with his feet.

Myers has signed this copy under the photograph of him, his wife, and young son on the Dedication Page.
