Caption: "Tweed-le-dee and Tilden-dum. Reform Tweed. '"If all the people want is to have somebody arrested, I'll have you plunderers convicted. You will be allowed to escape; nobody will be hurt; and then Tilden will go to the White House, and I to Albany as Governor.'" One is a two-page, pro-Grant spread showing Lady Columbia with her hand covering her eyes and the other resting on a piece of paper with the message, "'Had I but served my God with half the zeal I served my country, He would not in mine age have left me naked to mine enemies.'" The caption below is "Grant's Last Annual Message. Columbia. 'I did not think to shed a tear in all my miseries; but thou hast forced me out of thy honest truth to play the woman.'--Shakespeare." Also, spectacular two-page illustration by Thomas Nast showing a blindfolded Lady Justice being led by a devil figure to the edge of a cliff as God overlooks from his perch in the clouds holding an hour glass nearly empty. The caption reads, "' 'Tis the times' plague, when madmen lead the blind.' -- Shakspeare." The illustration is in remarkably bright condition and quite suitable for framing. Size is 16" wide and 22" tall. Full-page collage of illustrations by G.S.
