Olivier, LaurenceFirst Folio Shakespeare Facsimile.This copy is SIGNED by Laurence Olivier and is presented to the poet Lewis Turco. The folio contains many of Shakespeare's plays and is in Fine condition. It is a facsimile published by W W Norton in 1968. A massive work at 9 lbs. with 928 pages. The binding is the publisher's blue cloth and includes the DJ.Both the copy and DJ are in fine condition. A nice association copy by the legendary Shakespearian actor Sir Laurence Olivier.

"Dangerous Work", Number 43 of an anotated limited edition of Doyle's actual diary (logs). This London edition preceeded the U.S. edition and is the First Edition. It is a fine reproduction of the two volume log he kept during his whaling voyage on the S S Hope from February 28, 1880 to August 11, 1880. Doyle was 21 at the time and these adventures stayed with him all his life. Some of his memories from the voyage were later mentioned in several Sherlock Homes stories. The two volume log is reproduced in a color facsimile and also contains a complete annotated transcript of the log. Following the transcript are the short stories influenced by his whaling adventures: "the Adventure of Black Peter", "The Captain of the Pole-Star", "Life on a Greenland Whaler", and "The Glamour of the Arctic".The condition of the diary and the slip case is Fine...as new, unopened and unread.

Journal of a Voyage to Australia.Col. S.B. Bevington J.P.F. Shaw and Co, London. Pp 142. First edition, 8vo. SIGNED on front end paper. The condition is Fine, with a clean and crisp text, and the binding has very slight shelf wear. The book is a series of thirteen letters written while on his voyage to Australia. He begins by sailing on the Victoria, "one of the finest ships in the P. and O. Fleet". The first letter written from Brindisi is very descriptive of shipboard travel. His journey from London is by way of the Suez Canal. A very interesting account of travel from London to Australia and return, visiting many places along the way during this seven month journey…all from the perspective of a First Class traveler.

Wallace, Alfred Russel
The Revolt of Democracy.
Cassell and Company, London 1913, 1st edition. With the Life Story of the Author By James Marchant. Pp [6], vii-xlv, 82. Publisher's red cloth with lettering in gilt. Includes the scarce DUST JACKET. Condition of the cloth boards are as new with the gilt being very bright. The DJ is Near Fine with having a nick at the top of the spine. The text block is tight, clean, with no signatures or other markings, except on the bottom edge there is a black line. This appears to be a remainder mark made with a felt tip pen. If this book was a remainder in 1913, which is doubtful, it wouldn't be marked with a modern felt tip pen. This copy would be FINE except for light spotting around the margins on many pages (see photo).
The first 65 pages is the Life Story of Wallace by Marchant. This is followed by Wallace's account of a needed "Revolt of Democracy" to address the wages/wealth imbalance in society. His opening paragraph sets the tone of his message and is as… Leer más

Interesting 47 page article on Bell Lab's efforts in the development of " fire control radar" for the U S Navy.Also, the complete article on the development of the Magnetron Oscillator, first published in the April issue and contains 181 pages. This copy is in Fine condition with the text clean and bright and probably never read.

English Mission to Abyssinia.
Gerald H Portal. c. 1888, privately printed account by Portal...the head of a English Mission to the King of Abyssinia. His purpose was seeking a peaceful resolution between King Johannis and a garrison of Italian soldiers.
Signed by Portal on the front endpaper, bookplate "Henry Winterton". Condition of the covers is near fine with slight scuff marks. The text is fine...see protos.

Diary of A Journey Overland through the Maritime Provinces of China, from Manchao, on the South Coast of Hainan, to Canton, in the Years 1819 and 1820, by J.R., published by Richard Phillips, London 1822. Half calf with marble boards and gilt spine in period style; pages are clean although edges show minor discoloration. Overall a very good copy.

Additions to the Fourth and Former Editions of An Essay on the Principle of Population, etc etc.Malthus, T. R. London: John Murray, 1817. First edition. 8vo. Bound in original publisher's card stock boards, pages un-trimmed with some un-cut. A VERY GOOD un-opened copy. The usual light foxing is heavier in the prelims, otherwise the text is generally clean. Pp. iv, 327 and no adverts at the end suggesting an early printing. Boards have some scuffing from shelf wear, and evidence of hinges being expertly repaired.

The Botanic Garden
Maund, Benjamin.
Simkin & Marshall, Beginning in 1825 and published in parts. This set is uniformly bound in 8 volumes (1-8), consisting of 96 plates and 384 engraved hand-colored botanical entries. The attractive contemporary binding is an uncommon green "Watered Silk" pattern, with morocco labels in gilt. The bindings are very good and show slight shelf wear, some sun fade on the spines only, and a few corners lightly bumped. Each plate is protected from offsetting from the descriptions by tissue guards. The plates and text are very clean and bright, and all the plates are accounted for. The title pages and endpapers do have moderate foxing. All 384 entries are listed by an index and shown in the common name and the botanical notation. An attractive copy of a very popular 19th century Botanical reference book by a well known naturalist.

Bound in original cloth, have been respined. Original owner bookplate inside front cover. Half title and title page. Each volume features an extensive number of illustrations, diagrams and engravings. Some occasional spotting, but overall a very good copy.

The Drum Of The Fore And Aft. This copy is number 6 in a series of short stories from the Indian Railway library. Price was one Rupee.Published by A H Wheeler & Co. Allahabad. Pp 96. (One page of adverts.) The binding is by Bayntun of Bath England and is a red 3/4 patterned calf over red cloth boards. The binding shows no wear and is very attractive with gilt lettering on the spine. The publisher's pictorial wraps are present and bound in with the text in proper sequence rather at the end of the text as in some cases. The text, except for some light spotting on the advertisement and the title page is clean, bright and without any tears or markings. Kerouac, JackSAN FRANCISCO BLUES, and The Great Western Bus Ride, Pull My Daisy, Home for Christmas, Old Angel Midnight, Two Stories…, The Vision of the Hooded White Angles. A scarce collection of eight booklets, published in the 1980's by four different publishers. Several have Kerouac material published for the first time in its complete form.
All seven are scarce because of the limited numbers published. The four Pacific Red Car booklets were limited editions of 100 copies, and published in 1984-85. The San Francisco Blues was Kerouac's first book of poetry written in 1954. The poem In 79 Courses was only printed in "bits and pieces" until it was first printed in its entirety in 1984 in this copy.All of the copies are bound with printed card stock wraps and attached with staples. All are in a like-new condition with no markings or signatures. They appear to be unread.

Park: a Fantastic Story by John Gray, Sheed & Ward, London, 1932. One of 250 printed. Bound in uniquely patterned paper, with etching design at rear; binding is tight, pages are clean. Overall a fine copy.
