Special binding in half leather over aqua marbled boards with identical text block edges; raised bands and gold lettering and decoration on the spine. Binder's mark: "Creasey, Binder, Sleaford." 607 pages. Authored by one of the women who penned the way for Jane Austen and the Brontes. While the binding holds fast, the leather cover has separated at the spine and cracked at the hinge. Bumped, scuffed, and rubbed exteriors. Damp staining on frontispiece and title page, not reaching text. Otherwise, clean, unmarked pages. Occasional foxing, notably on the illustration plates and in the hinge. Penned in script on pastedown: "R. Carington: Smith. May 1st 1860;" Adhered nameplate with typeface: "Lt. Col. & Mrs. M. Baker, Jr. Quarters 53 F.E. Warren AFB, Wyo." Creases on page 297.
