London: William MacKenzie, 1885. 1885 An original antique colour print titled: EDEN HALL PROVENANCE: This original colour print was taken from 'A SERIES OF PICTURESQUE VIEWS OF SEATS OF THE NOBLEMEN AND GENTLEMEN OF GREAT BRITAIN AND IRELAND' published by William Mackenzie, Ludgate Hill. 11" x 8" Alexander Francis Lydon (/'la?d?n/; 1836–1917) was a British watercolour artist, illustrator and engraver of natural history and landscapes. He worked for Benjamin Fawcett the printer, to whom he had been apprenticed from an early age. Colour printing was a major change from the much-admired monochrome work of Thomas Bewick (1753-1828). At first wood-engraving illustrations were coloured by hand, but later a system of colouring from multiple wood blocks was used. Hand-coloured wood engraving started with an accurate painting of the subject. This picture was then carved on a wooden block, standing proud in order to pick up the ink. Sept. 1866, Lord Brougham presents his compliments to Mr. Megson and assures him that he wishes as well as possible to the proposed meeting. But in his capacity of judge in the highest court of appeal it would be improper for him to attend the meeting. He read with much concern the account of the late execution in Manchester & he had conceived that the late resolution of both Houses had been enforced to prevent public executions." 1833. March 4th 1833, Autograph letter by Henry Brougham, 1st Baron Brougham and Vaux to a Mr. Beaumont of Bradford. Written in the 3rd person, consistent with Brougham's style, this original letter presents his compliments to Beaumont and acknowledges receipt of a Petition from Bradford for the abolition of slavery. The Chancellor (Brougham) will take an early opportunity to present the petition to the House of Lords. Brougham was Lord Chancellor of England from 1830-1834 and is most well-known for being instrumental in passing the 1833 Slavery Abolition Act in August, which abolished slavery throughout the British Empire, 1833, a few months after writing this letter.
