The author Bernard Charles Henri Clavel (1923-2010) won the 1968 Prix Goncourt. His novel tells the story of Gaston Dubois and his wife Fernande, forced to work their way into old age, who live in their own small world where the events and tragedies of World War 2 mean little to them.
