Introduction by author's son, facsimile of the title page to the original edition, dedication to the original edition and preface to the original edition. The text is illustrated, including black-and-white frontispiece, throughout. Blue coloured leather covered boards with self embossed decoration to the boards with gilt coloured decoration and titles to the back strip. Gilt to the top text edge with a faded blue coloured place marker which has frayed at the end. Title says it all. Author's first novel. Softening and Chipping to the back strip with rubbing of the book edges and panels. Marble coloured endpapers. Gilt to all paper edges. Brown coloured leather boards with gilt writing on the front panel along with leather work decoration and gilt writing on the spine. Shelfwear to the lower book, edges and there has been some bumping of the top gilt edge. On the front panel, there is a slightly darker area within the leather commensurate with a sticker being placed there. Some rubbing to the back panel. This is a facsimile reprint of the 1866 edition. This book is part of a limited edition of 1000 copies, as stated, but is not numbered. Max Harris' poems have been selected by Robert Clark who has also done an introduction to the work. The book is broken into two sections, poems written before 1955 and those written after 1955. As Robert Clark said in his introduction "... to some people his poetry is difficult. He is not a deliberate obscurant (no true poet ever is), but he has read widely, and he assumes that the reader has a literary equipment, and stride, equal to his own."
