Scrapbook of Jasper S. Connell of the San Francisco construction firm of Van Sant-Houghton was placed in charge of the New York Exhibit at the Panama-Pacific International Exposition which was a civic effort to show that San Francisco had truly recovered from the San Francisco Earthquake, Jasper S. Connell (1884-1965) was the Civil Engineer whose thesis: "Fire and Earthquake-proof Building on the West Coast Water Front" influenced the City of New York to place him in charge of the exhibit. It is his telegram here that authorizes Martin L. Fouquet, who was the chief engineer for New York in charge of its exhibition at the fair (for which he was awarded a Medal of Honor for the exhibit). the 61-page scrapbook includes the following: (1) the Fair passport for Fouquet and his wife; (2) the ink record of the Grand Prix which included Barney Oldfield and a host of the fasted cars of the era; (3) the pamphlet "The Human Heart Attraction" by Humphrey Lynch (no recorded copies in OCLC or NUC); (4) The Olympian (vol. III, no. 29) shows the sporting events at the fair with a picture of F. Sloman who tied the 440 yard dash in 47 seconds.
