Sobre este artículo

[The Pill] [Vatican] Original press Photo on Protest for birth control access during the Pope's Easter message at the Vatican, 1967. Protestors with large signs stand in the crowded square. Original silver gelatin print photograph. 7 x 9 in. The Pill had met FDA approval in 1960, and by 1967 many Catholics (including one of the Pill's cofounders, Dr. John Rock) defended its use and believed that the Vatican would eventually accept oral contraceptives as safe and moral type of birth control. Original press caption typed on front "Vatican City: Birth control advocates stage a placard-waving demonstration in St. Peter's Square 3/26, in the middle of a crowd gathered to hear Pope Paul's Easter message. Some of the posters read: "yes to the pill," "enough abortions," and "overpopulation means famine." The Pope took no notice of the brief uproar." This photo was taken just one year before Pope Paul VI's famous Humanae Vitae which reaffirmed the Church's traditional teachings and classified the Pill as an artificial method of birth control. To go on the Pill or use any other contraceptive device would constitute nothing less than a mortal sin. Date stamped on the back in blue ink "Apr 6 '67". These original press photo taken by photojournalist within tight timeframe for the benefit of particular editorial board and with the aim of usage by the press to illustrate an article often affected public opinion in the nation. Very good condition.
