Homorable M.F. Taylor of Colorado, will deliver a political address... (broadside advertisement with accompanying correspondence)

Cheyenne: Democratic State Central Committee, 1898. Newsprint broadside, 22x15cm. Western Union telegram, 13x20cm. Typed letter signed 27.5x21cm. Some marginal staining to letter, some bleeding to red ink of telegram, transmittal folds to each, generally very good or better. 19th century broadside advertising a speaking engagement by the Honorable Mortimer F. Taylor of Denver at Root's Opera House [Laramie], on the evening of Friday, October 21, 1898. Music to be provided by Mandolin and Glee Clubs, including original songs. It touts, "Mr. Taylor is a leading lawyer of Denver and a pleasing and impressive speaker. Our citizens may expect an intellectual treat."

The broadside is accompanied by a typed letter signed by John Andrew Martin (1868-1939), then the chairman of the Democratic State Central Committee of Wyoming, and later a member of U.S. congress representing Colorado. The letter is addressed to N. E. Corthell, chairman of the Democratic County Committee in Laramie and asks Corthell to arrange advertisement through Denver newspapers for Taylor's two meetings in Wyoming, the other taking place in Cheyenne. The letter is stamped Oct 20 1898, just a day before the event in Laramie.

Additionally included is a Western Union telegram dated on Oct 21st at 2:05am, from Martin to Cothrell stating Taylor's arrival by morning train, and that he is "a strong man and you will be proud of him after the meeting."

Mortimer F. Taylor was a prominent attorney in Denver and later New York. He actively spoke in the Western States at political meetings and events, specifically for the Silver Republican Party.
