London: Smith, Elder & Co., 1889. Book. Very Good. Half Leather. 12mo (12 x 18cm). Complete three volume set; frontispiece plates to the first and third volume. Superb half brown crushed morocco binding by Hatchards of Piccadilly in an Arts & Crafts style. The spine divided into three unequal compartments with raised bands between, the central compartment decorated with a running pattern of roses, the date to the lower compartment with the title to the top compartment, the lettering and decoration with a clear Walter Crane Influence. Marbled paper boards; top edge gilt, other edges uncut. Bindings fine with minimal wear. Contents good and tight, some foxing to page edges and first and last pages, small contemporary gift inscription and engraved bookplates of Charles H. Clerk to front end papers. Superb Bindings..
