Although the translation of "Animal Farm" by Teresa Jeleńska was first published 1947, then again in 1956, this 1974 edition was the one which inspired a whole series of Polish samizdat editions in the 1970-80s, when the work was prohibited in communist Poland. Indeed, an underground edition produced in 1983 even reproduced the unattributed wrapper design on its offset-printed wrappers. The publisher of the present edition was Jerzy Kulczycki.
