Type: Hardback Hardcover Book As New.with a Very Good + Bookcase. 7.75 x 11" tall. 80 pp. Illustrated by Michel Ciry. Mustard colored cloth, very clean and unmarked; tight and solid. Interior also pristine. Eight full page, full color illustrations by Michel Ciry. Golden brown bookcase is quite clean with a light fold-like line near the bottom and a scuff to the fore-edge open end, near the corner. On the opposite sde, there is a water stain three quarters of an inch round. Translated from the German of Richard Voss by Gustav Adolf Danziger and adapted by Ambrose Bierce. There are two Introductions, the first by Ambrose Bierce himself for a 1907 publication. He attempted ti explain the origins of this German tale and his part in bringing it to the American people, The other introduction is by Maurice Valency revealing the romantic-medieval mood of the story, and of the facts regarding Bierce's role in adapting it and rewriting it.The foundation of this story is an old manuscript, obtained from a peasant by Richard Voss.
