Washington: Metropolitan Mechanics' Institute, 1855. unbound. Broadside. Measures 15.75" x 9.5".<br/><br/> This 1855 broadside promotes the "Second Exhibition of the Metropolitan Mechanics' Institute." It features an engraving in the top half showing people gathered on the Smithsonian grounds with the Smithsonian Institution Building in the background. Below the engraving are details relating to the exhibitions, a list of the exhibition committee and other members as well as the rules. The exhibition was held on February 8th, 1855 in the 'new and splendid Hall of the Smithsonian Institution, one of the most magnificent rooms in the United States'. Joseph Henry, here listed as the President of the Metropolitan Mechanics' Institute also happened to be the first secretary of the Smithsonian.<br><br>The broadside is in good condition with minor wear and toning along the original folds and minor foxing. A stamp of the Metropolitan Mechanics' Institute on verso.<br/><br/>
