Hardcover, original full leather binding, banded on spine with gilt design and gilt to edges of boards. Exterior shows wear to edges and corners with tears to leather finish, spine is chipped on top and bottom. In addition: leather is cracked at hinges and binders string is showing. Despite the exterior issues the interior is in very nice shape. Marbled end pages at front and rear and exterior page edges as well. Text binding is tight though hinge is opened at one of the front end pages. Pages are toned but show only minor foxing in book feels like it was not used much. Front pastedown shows a bookplate with the name "J. B. Troy" and also a small label in the corner saying this book was once assigned to the Library of St. Charles College in Cantonsville, Maryland. Full calf leather binding with five raised bands on spine. Small section of cover of spine missing between two bands. Corners turning in and slightly exposed. Ex-libris labels on inside cover; contents otherwise clean with only minor tanning; endpapers foxing. Front board binding has a crack between the board and spine so feels very slightly loose.

Bookplate of William Thirlwall Bayne to front pastedown. Joseph Addison was a essayist, poet and politician. His foray in to the world of politics began when Addison was invited to write a poem depicting the Battle of Blenheim, by the Lord Treasurer. This work was so well received that it earned him a place in parliament, as Commissioner of Appeals. He would hold numerous positions in government from that time on, eventually ended up as the MP for Malmesbury, a position he held until his death in 1719. In a calf binding. Externally, rubbed. Written by Joseph Addison, an English essayist, poet, playwright, and politician who is remembered as a founder of The Spector magazine along with his close friend Richard Steele. In the original brown calf binding. Externally, sound with shelf wear and the odd mark to the board from age. Some rubbing and bumping to the boards. Joint starting to the head of the spine but very firm. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are bright and clean with light spotting to the first and last few pages. The odd handling mark. Good
