Spine in 6 compartments with gilt embossing & lettering. Spine is darkened with some wear to the gilt. Endpapers marbled, as are all page edges. This binding very likely dates to the time of publication. There is a very small remnant of a paper label (perhaps bookplate) on the front pastedown; it can be removed easily. One page shows mild foxing; this is the armorial dedication page, which is printed on different paper from the rest of the book (no spotting elsewhere). The Table of Plates calls for 21 illustrations; this copy has only one (Chamonix, opposite pg. 141). 4.75 x 7.25 in.
