Expected library inserts, stamps and inscriptions. Light foxing and tanning to pages; more prominent to text block edges, pastedowns and free endpapers. Binding remains firm. Boards have minor corner bumping and edgewear with mild sunning adjacent to spine and scuffing overall. Spine has moderate sunning with noticeable fraying and crushing to ends. Lettering remains bright and clear. Book has a slight forward lean.

Rough cut pages are lightly tanned and thumbed at the edges, with creased corners and foxing. Hinges are cracked, with some exposed netting and a loose binding. Boards have been moderately rub worn. Noticeable shelf wear to corners, spine and edges. Corners are bumped and a little frayed Spine ends are crushed, with noticeable splits and chips. Tanning to spine and edges. Boards are bowed. Book has a forward lean. Water marks to boards and spine.

The whole subject of Migration is so vast, so wide reaching, and so complicated, that it would be absurd to regard it as exhausted, and the present volume must be looked upon as a pioneer.There are foxing on the page ends and inside the cover and first page two pages of information have been stuck in.There is a pen inscription inside and the cover a little worn on the edges.

(Charles Dixon was a prolific author with around 25 books, mostly on British Birds, published between 1880 -1909. He was for many years in business at Torquay, Devon, from where this book was written, but subsequently moved to London. Many of his books were illustrated by Charles Whymper, though this title is not illustrated. This is the first edition of one of his more important books, with a number of subsequent revised editions published.).
