New York: Praeger Publishers, Inc, 1971. Hardcover. Good/Good (foxing to text block, light age toning to page edges but text and plates are otherwise clear. DJ has moderate wear with scuffing and fading.). Smoky blue cloth, gilt lettering, smoky blue DJ. 106 pp., 135 BW plates. Translated from the original German and augmented by many new illustrations, this edition offers a fine volume from a fine series written by one of the authorities on the subject of Dutch/Netherlandish painting. This particular tome constitutes Volume 7 of the series and focuses on the work of Antwerp School founder Quentin Massys (Matsys) (1466-1530). These are extensively revised and expanded second editions, with a far larger corpus of plates than the original versions. Comments and notes by H. Pauwels. Translation by Heinz Norden.

New York, New York: Frederick A. Praeger, 1971. Minor edge and corner wear; no dj; lightly scuffed and scratched; corners are gently bumped and rubbed; some light shelf wear; ex-library with the usual library markings; overall a nice used First American Edition! Blue cloth covered boards with gilt lettering on the front board and spine. 106 historical and informative pages of text and 135 wonderful and historic pages of black and white plates! "A superstitious belief in the magic of numbers inspires us to look upon the round figures that mark the turn of a century as the beginning of a new chapter. Yet in accounts of the history of art and culture, none will be naive enough to take a year ending in two noughts ipso facto as the beginning or end of an epoch. We know that change sets in gradually, now before, now after a given landmark date.........." -------- from the A Foreword Look and a Glance Backwards.. First American Edition. Blue Cloth. Good/No Jacket. 4to - over 9¾" -…
