With a historical introduction, a chronological list of events, an author index, and a general index. All in French. The final great work of Harrisse, well known for his BIBLIOTECA AMERICANA VETUSTISSIMA and his NOTES SUR LA NOUVELLE-FRANCE. This is his masterly disquisition on the early cartography of the New World, with numerous reproductions of important early maps. Co-published by Henry Stevens Son & Stiles and H. Welter, and printed in Paris by Charles Herissey. This copy bears the bookplate of Maine politician and historian James Phinney Baxter. An important reference. HOWES H250.
