Volume Two has a few very small dark red stains on the spine, but not very noticeable. Volume Two is inscribed on the front end paper, 'Arthur C Hutchison, Richmond Feb '46'. Binding tight and appears little read; no annotation - brief gift inscription to front endpaper in volume one only; text bright and clear throughout. Not an old library book.

The red boards are much marked, stained, worn all about from storage and shelving. They are steady and sound. The Southern Rhodesian coat of arms is worn and scuffed. The early pages are peppered with previous owner signatures and annotations. The papertrims are foxed. The early and later pages are worn, foxed, discoloured. Whilst the rest of the contents are flecked, flushed with foxing here and there, the pages are generally clean, clear, comfortable, companionable. Two: A smart copy.
