Descripción:
New York.: G.& C.& H Carvill., 1830. "Tanner, captured by the Indians when he was nine years old, lived as an Indian for about thirty years, thereafter making an unsuccessful attempt to re-assimilate himself in white culture. His narrative contains much information about the Hudson's Bay and Northwest Companies, and about Lord Selkirk's Red River colony" - Streeter, VI 3701. "Minute, vivid, but not altogether trustworthy, account of all phases of Indian life" - Howes J-42, who rates this edition a "b" in rarity. Field, 772, with a very lengthy note. This is the original, and best, edition. A second edition was printed in London. Bound as issued in cloth over boards, with contemporary owner's signature on front board and title page. A lovely, untrimmed copy, and scarce thus. The last copy to sell at auction brought $1464 in 2010. This copy is in better condition.. 23.5 cm. 426 pp. b/w frontipiece engraving. Line ills in text.
