Thirteen plates, seven of which are hand-colored showing natural stream insects with descriptive tissue guards. The book is bound in its original green cloth with gilt mayflies on the front cover and gilt titles. Light green end papers. Original green paper slip case. The book is browned on the spine with gilt titles nearly illegible, otherwise very good. The slip case is also browned and repaired on the edges, lacking its top panel. See Siegel, et al, entry number 88. Very good in a fair slip case. .

Bookplate to the front pastedown. There is a distinctive odor to the pages. Contained in a blue cloth slipcase with a gilt-lettered paper label to the spine. This slipcase may be from the later edition from 1970. It is in very good, solid condition but has some uneven fading. ; Small 4to 9" - 11" tall; 190 pages .
