Clean, scuffed covers and spine; some rubbing wear at edges, boards exposed at lower fore corners; 3/4 inch split at spine head; 1 inch square missing at spine tail; spine label gilt mostly effaced; partial split at rear cover/spine joint; tightly bound; owner name and date (1836?) in contemporary ink on front free end paper; approximately 1/3 of fold-out frontispiece engraving is present; 4 other engravings present: 2 are torn but complete, 1 is torn and missing lower fore corner, 1 is complete; 1 interior leaf is torn horizontally across middle; all sections present and bound in. The Holy War is written in the form of an allegory, it tells the story of the town "Mansoul". Though this town is perfect and bears the image of Shaddai (Almighty), it is deceived to rebel and throw of his gracious rule, replacing it instead with the rule of Diabolus. The town is eventually reclaimed by Emmanuel. Matching contemporary half calf bindings wqith marbled boards. Spines gilt in panels between raised bands. Spines faded but only minor rubbing to edges and corners. Some text leaves spotted, otherwise clean and tight internally. A very good set.

Complete in two volumes bound into one. In a quarter morocco binding. Externally, quite rubbed with marks to the boards. The hinges are failed with the textblock coming neatly away from the boards. Internally, firmly bound. Lovely and bright, clean aside from scattered spotting throughout. Good Only

An interesting note for those interested in the economics of 18th century printing: The advertisement for the companion printing of "Pilgrim's Progress" at the bottom of the title page has the "Eight Sixpenny Numbers" changed to 10.
