New York: William L. Allison, 1111 Presumed early reprint, (probably unauthorised.) Hard cover, 12 mo, in blue publishers' cloth with title and author's name blocked in gold to the spine, pattern printed end papers, frontispiece plus 9 of the twelve listed full page illustrations. Lacking Table of Contents for Part II (pages are there.) Quality of type and illustrations suggest anastatic printing, i.e. pirated copy. (7) (1-334 pp.) (1). This edition does not specifically appear in Arthur B. Evans's bibliography of Verne's works online, but the wording is consistent with the first English translation from the original French by N. D'anvers, the pen name of Nancy Bell, and her dedication page appears among the prelims, dated 1873. Other later editions were translated by others. Originally serialized in France during 1872 and 1873.**Condition: Very Good. Light marks to boards, very slight fraying at tail of spine. Pages quite toned. Hinges in order, and otherwise clean with no writing.**This adventure…

Descripción:
Boston: James R. Osgood and Company, 1874. First US Edition. Hardcover. Good. xiii, 334 p., interspersed with plates. 21 cm. Frontispiece, 99 other full page plates, and a vignette on last page. Green cloth with black and gilt impressing. Front has gilt image of snarling animal beside prostrate man and spine has solitary figure gazing downwards. Mylar wrap (removed for photo). Corners worn, spine ends chipped and torn. Hinges cracking internally. Foxing to frontispiece and title. One signature jutting out a bit. Printed November 1873 wth a postdated title page listing 1874, so possibly the first edition in English since the London edition was also issued that month. N. D'Anvers was a pseudonym for Mrs. Arthur (Nancy) Bell, who translated at least two other Verne books. This fun story about northern Canada includes fur traders, polar bears, avalanches, dog sleds, Aurora Borealis, wolves, and, of course, "Esquimaux" in kayaks. Myers 27. Taves & Michaluk V010.
