Tubingen, Gemany: Verlag Ernst Wasmuth, 1948. 96pgs. Gilt spine titled cloth and decorated paper covered boards. Edges are tanned with a trace of wear to the extremities else near fine in edge tanned and light worn dustjacket lacking a few chips at the spine and fragment the top rear panel. Top front panel has a light circular stain else very good and appearing better than described here. A nice copy of this beautifully printed fourth edition of photographer Karl Blossfeldt's now renowned collection of photographs of plants. Scarce in any condition or edition, especially with a dustjacket in any condition. Text in German. Roth 101.. Fourth Edition. Hardcover. Very Good/Good. Large Quarto.

First edition; folio (312 × 242 mm, 12¼ x 9½ in); black-and-white photographs printed in gravure by Ganymed, Berlin; foxing to edges and to plain endpapers, green cloth-covered boards, spine titled in gilt, lightly dulled, upper side titled and with a design after one of the photographs in gilt, lightly bowed, black-and-white photo-illustrated dust-jacket, worn and torn with internal repair to lower panel, an excellent copy with a good dust-jacket. Urformen der Kunst is an important and influential work, a cornerstone of the New Objectivity (Neue Sachlichkeit) movement in Germany and a consensus highlight of twentieth-century photobook collecting. Karl Blossfeldt had initially trained as a sculptor and, as an amateur botanist, was fascinated by the underlying structures of nature as explored by Ernst Haeckel in Kunstformen der Natur (1899-1904). Berlin: Verlag Ernst Wasmuth, 1929. Cloth. Very Good +/Very Good. The 1929 stated 2nd edition of this seminal photographic study of plants and flowers, IN ITS UNCOMMON PICTORIAL DUSTJACKET. Loosely translated from its German as "Archetypes of Art", Karl Blossfeldt's groundbreaking portraits, all in rich, lavish gravure, highlight the brilliance --and the beauty-- of nature's remarkable design. A very solid copy to boot: Tight and VG+ to Near Fine, with bright, completely unrubbed gilt-titling and insignia along the front panel. Internally, clean as could be, with no writing or markings of any kind. And in a crisp, VG dustjacket, with light chipping along the spine ends (at the spine crown very light loss, at the spine base 1 1/2" of loss) and at the tips. Mild scuffing and soiling as well to the panels but the jacket remains attractive and very presentable. Tall quarto, 120 plates all told. Edited and with an Introduction by Karl Nierendorf.
