The book became well-known through the spy novels of John le Carré as the fictional location of The Nursery' Spy School. The first and most interesting story in this book is by le Carré himself. Other contributors to the book include Dennis Jenks (Editor), and Michael O'Donnell (Illustrator).

Bound in original blue cloth boards with title in silver to the spine. The binding is square and tight and in very smart condition, with no marks or damage to speak of, save a touch of bumping to the spine ends. Inside, the pages are clean and bright and in beautiful condition, appearing barely read and practically as new.
The book is housed in its original first issue, pictorial dust jacket, with Sarratt Church by Moonlight to the front cover. It is in equally smart condition, vibrant and bright, with no signs of marking and with just a little wear to the corners.
In all, this is a very collectible and unusual item by le Carre a must-have for any collector of his work. It was produced by Sarratt village in order to raise funds for two local charities. The collection includes a story by former KGB Intelligence Officer Mikhail Lubimov. The dust jacket (with the flaps unstamped) has, printed on the rear panel, a quiz consisting of nine quotations from Le Carré's books all with some mention of Sarratt, the test being to identify the provenance of each. Accompanying this copy is the pamphlet, issued with the book, containing a list of the people of Sarratt as of 21 June 1999; 8vo 8" - 9" tall .

John le Carre using his writer's imagination depicted Sarratt in his books as the fictional location of a training school for spies. Remember The Nursery? He has contributed an interesting short story about why he chose the village as the setting for his British spy school. Interestingly, another short story by the Russian author Mikhail Lyubimov entitled The Adventures of Colonel Karla in Sarratt sees the village as a tranquil rural backwater, where one can enjoy retirement.
