With twenty six copper engraved plates, including a hand-coloured county map and one further hand-coloured plate. Blue ink ownership inscriptions of Mr. Wade Porteous, a notable book collector and descendant of the Abolitionist Bishop Beilby Porteus, to front pastedown and title page. Neatly rebacked using the original marbled boards, and pink endpapers, new brown calf spine with gilt titles. Some occasional light spotting andsporadic marginalia, some toning around plates. Bindings rubbed to board edges, especially so to the corners, some scuffs to the boards. Very good.

Rib pattern on board edges and gilt floral design surrounding marbled endpapers. Spine has 5 raised bands, similar design plus gilt titles. Owner's bookplate. All edges gilt, latticework diamond pattern incised in the gilt with flowers cut into the lattice spaces. The title page has been professionally replaced with a typed copy and should be easily replaced. The remaining book is otherwise intact and in superb condition. Can send photographs. Map plus 34 plates.. First Edition. Full Leather. Very Good/No Jacket. 8.5" x 11". Hardback.

The three plates called for in this part are present, plus an addition of 132 more plates including three leaves of text, and the hand colored map of Cambridgeshire "engraved for Moul's English Counties by W. Schmollinger." Nine other plates are colored, including six from Rudolph Ackermanns' 1815 "History of the University of Cambridge." Late 19th century binding with leather over spine and corners, raised spine band, gilt stamped lettering and ruling, and top edge gilded. Covers show rubbing along edges and spine bands.
