Illustrated by Alan Cober with a new one page introduction by Mailer written specially for this edition. Along with FROM HERE TO ETERNITY and Shaw's THE YOUNG LIONS, one of the major novels of WW11.

A very near fine copy in a decorated full leather binding with all page edges gilt and a bound in silk book marker but with some very slight bumping to the bottom front corner. Includes the Notes From the Editors pamphlet as well as the original cardstock holder. Signed by Mailer. A lovely fresh copy.

Faithful reproduction of the original edition but for lack of the printed price on the front dustjacket flap. Probably issued in the 1990's. This copy signed by Mailer on a tipped-in page between the front free endpage and the half-title page as issued. Spine ends pushed; otherwise, in Fine condition in a Fine dustjacket with an archival cover. Mailer's first novel.. Signed by Author. Hardcovers. Fine/Fine. 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" tall.

Rinheart & Co., 1948. First Edition. . Cloth. Good/Fair. this is the book that put Mailer on the map. Text is clean and unmarked, binding is tight. Jacket in Mylar is in poor condition with several chunks missing. Flat signed card by Mailer at later date is inside book, most likely signed at another book signing. Appears to be first but dust jacket dmamaged so could possibly be lst BC which had same cover.

It is accompanied with a ***SIGNED*** card by the author. Condition In VG/G condition. Price of $4.00 on DJ The hardback is in VeryGood condition. It is clean & tight with a small previous owners' signatures and dated July 1948 on the ffep. There is mild toning to the inside boards & end pages but the text is clean. The dustjacket is in VeryGood condition and has been repaired & now in mylar. The spine has 1/2" - 1" loss at the top and a 1/4" - 1/2" loss at the bottom.

Very Good to Near Fine book that has rubbing, slight bumping and wear to spine ends and bottom edges of boards, tiny closed tear at top of spine, touch of color loss within back gutter, light age toning to page edges; in a Very Good jacket that has edge wear, several small closed tears and very small chips, some color loss at corners, along folds and along jacket edges, mild rubbing and touch of age toning along top of back panel and edges of flaps. The jacket is not the 1st state and does not have the blurb for readers by Stanley Rinehart. The Rinehart colophon is present on the copyright page and front flap shows price of $4.00. This copy of Mailer's acclaimed first novel has a 3 by 5 card laid-in with an inscription: "To Orville W. Jafke with my best wishes," signed by Mailer.

The book has a 3/4" tear crown of the spine and edge wear bottom and top edges of the fragile cloth, else very good minus in BOTH the first (Rinehart blurb) and second state DJs. The former is fair only, price intact ($4.00) with large chips spinal extremities, rubbing along spinal folds and small chips top of rear panel (see photo for details). The second issue is price intact ($4.00) very good with shallow chips at spinal extremities and some rubbing.. Signed by Author(s). 1st Edition. Hardcover. Good/Dust Jacket Included.

R in a circle on copyright page, signifying a first printing. Moderate edgewear, very light tanning on the page edges. Dust jacket very good, chipping at the corners and spine ends. A closed tear extends 2/3 the length of the spine, beginning at the top. The edges of both flaps have pieces of tape adhered on. Comes housed in a custom slipcase. We will provide a certificate of authenticity for this item.
